Classic Drum Machine Sounds With Your Samples (AIRA w/ a SCREEN)

Image

The TR-8S features Roland’s iconic TR drum sounds, plus a wide selection of samples from Roland’s vast library. In addition, the TR-8S lets you load your own custom mono and stereo samples.

- all original sounds from Roland’s classic 808, 909, 707, 727, and 606, as well as modified versions. (ACB Tech)
- a range of effects, tailored to use with percussion. (Master and per channel)
- Updated TR Sequencing – The “TR-REC” step sequencer has been enhanced and modernized to be better than ever. Via the 16 TR-REC buttons and velocity-sensitive performance pad, users can develop intricate grooves and build detailed fills with velocity, accents, flams, and adjustable sub-steps. The TR-8S sequencer is able to store 128 patterns, with eight variations and three fills contained in each. These patterns or variations can be triggered individually or chained together for evolving sequences. It’s also now possible to save the tempo and kit assignment (along with knob positions and effect settings) in patterns.

Flexible connectivity – A stereo mix output is provided, plus six assignable audio outputs that allow individual drum sounds to be processed and mixed externally. There’s also a dedicated trigger output with its own sequencer track, and the assignable outputs can be reconfigured to output trigger signals if desired. Stereo audio inputs are provided as well, enabling users to connect and mix external sound sources. The TR-8S also functions as a multi-channel USB audio/MIDI interface, and supports AIRA Link for interfacing with other AIRA gear.

11 instrument parts and 1 exclusive part for trigger out
16 steps per 1 variation
8 (A – H) variations per 1 pattern
2 Fill-in patterns per 1 pattern

I've seen the demos on youtube. It's a killer drum machine. Folks have created whole tracks on it.

A B C D
E F G H ... Love it!

The 8S and minibrute 2S ares the first update to products I've owned since making music. (TR-8 and mBrute) I thought it would be another 30 years before another TR-8 landed. Time to lighten the load - eBay/Reverb style.

It's a Done deal for me. I got a heads up that I can expect it to Ship Fri.
Image
- separate outs that double as CV triggers, channel Gouping, 8X16 (matrix-type) step sequencing
- Audio over USB. multitrack.. Simple straightforward layout. TAP. .1 tempo. Yes.

the TR-8 is now worth $100, i believe, on Ebay. The 8S update is just that Good.
- but, ill keep it. It Sounds Great, is a better Drum part 'tuner' than the 8S, and I understand it.

Love my Boutiques, but the knobs and f(x)are a hinderance to going NUTZ.
But, together (8S), they're perfect.

Chiclets works surprisingly awesome on the TR-8. Now, there's a Velocity Sensitive Pad.
Otherwise, Keystep, Beatstep, Trigger Finger Pro and Maschine MK3. or...
Image

Im reading the manual now, but it seems the 8S is not as rigidly quantized as the 808/8.
- it's more like Electron.

So.. the new 8S has
SAMPLING - Direction, Position, Pitch, Decay
OUTPUTS - Kick, Snare, Stereo Toms, Stereo Hats, Stereo Cymbs . Simul.. Simul... at the same time!
TRIGGERS - CV, LFOs n such
AutoMotion -
FX - DElay, Reverb, Sidechain, Scatter, PLUS Flange, Phase, Fiter, Compress, Distort. DRIVE.
- Per Part, Per Step, Global

on my quest for a drum module, tried a bunch, and finally figured out my workflow.
Fav: TR-8 - bar NONE. just the faders, and mute buttons alone, destroys all others.
But, alas, it was just 1 Kick, 1 Snare, yada yada..

My future 4: Maschine (Performance Control), OP-Z (the new Electribe),
Digitakt (Monster Sound), and the TR-8S (Boutiques stay)
...still only ~$300 more than a Tempest.

TR-909: 19 inches by 12 inches... that's huge! especially at 9.9 lbs.
2 Velocity Levels (nice feature) and volume knobs.
TR-8S : 16.1 X 10.4 @ 4.6 lbs. Fits on a regular desk.
Velocity sensitive Pad - or Midi, and Volume FADERS.

The Sound, Not JUST kick, snare, tom, hats, here. It's whatever you want.

It sounds like your running Komplete on a computer - tethered to Maschine.
But - you're just on a standalone Drum Mod. How can that BE??

TR-808 Sound- That Kick.. near Perfect, Sculpting - all controls (pan, decay, tune, tone, etc)
Separate Outs, Audio In
Fader Control, CNTL knobs... Per channel CNTL knob specificity.
That Screen, the Lights, the Colors
A B C D E... 8 sets of 16 steps per sequence. I'm Bursting!
MUTE access - but those faders make it easy.
Live Record, Best Tempo Control of any Drum Machine (1.0 and .1 [SHIFT]),
Automotion JUST WORKS.. hold the REC knob and wiggle a button. Boom!!!!
Stereo SAMPLING - with a USB Stick... easy.
Filters, FX - per track. Master FX
MULTI-TRACKING

Some Drums Machines gotta go now.
Some stay: Digitakt. Some still coming: Looking forward to OP-Z.

But overall, i'd bring this knife to a gunfight.

Let's get a decksaver for this one in the works, PLEASE!

you forgot ... IMO.
otherwise, we may mistake what you're 'opining' as a fact your presenting.

Fact: REASON is not capable of giving us HARDWARE Performance Control. Sorry.
....no matter HOW much KONG looks like a Drum machine, it's an untouchable piece of software. It's contends with midi latency, digital predictability, and .... limited access to performance parameters.

Maybe that distinction is lost on you. Or, maybe you have a work around....
... we'd love to hear it....

Using Kong or ReDRUM is nowhere near as expressive as a HW Drum Mod.
and, that, my friend, makes all the difference in the world to one's sound.

it is a computer with a maybe handy controller?

I must say I am not at all impressed. but I am not using these devices live, so I guess I am not the right person to judge it. Can't understand anyone buying it for their studio though. Reason kills this machine soundwise and feature wise.

Has anyone here worked out how to integrate the TR-8s into reason? I'm trying to run Mac OSX, Reason 10 and the TR-8s out of the box today,. I've connected the TR-8s via USB 2.0 to my Mac but can't seem to get reason to trigger the DM/sync the tempo. I can get audio from the TR-8s into reason though.

I've made the TR-8S my audio interface too.

Hey, botnotbot and O1B (or others). Just wondering how this purchase held up. Still liking the TR-8S? It looks like it might be an awesome solution for a drum machine, but I'm always curious about users' thoughts on this board.

Thanks in advance for any info!

I sold all my Boutiques and Volca Drums. I sold my TR-8 and big DrumBRUTE.
[ I do miss the immediacy of the TR-8, but I got good $$$, and it was time to let go. I may get the TR-8 back.]

I used some of the proceeds to get myself one of these.... so's I can study Drum Sound Shaping...
Image

I love my 8S. It is my Repository of Roland Sounds. And - the Kicks.... ah, the Kicks....
8 banks of 16 bar beats... I can't give that up.

I have to back away sometimes, because you can get lost in it. It sounds sooooo Goooooooooooddddddd.

It's the Novation SL MKIII of Drum Machines.

I still have my Digitakt - upon which all future Drum Machines Sonics will be measured. See Elektron MK2s.
I have the drumBRUTE IMPACT. Love that little thing.

I will probably get the Rytm for LIVE Padding...(MIDI, CV, Reason, etc) and Analog Sound Shaping.

I hope that helps!
If I had known about the TR-808 when I was a kid, I don't know if I would've graduated High School.

That's how I feel about it.

Today, the only Sound I'd want from the TR-808 is the Kick.
A couple of Good Sample recordings of the Kick at different "Tonings", and Im all set.

Do you have the real thing?

Thanks for letting me know! Yeah, I was considering the DB Impact as well, since it has such a cool sound, but there is so much more control/effects/performance tweaks on the TR-8S, so it has my eye right now.
