Well this is interesting, according to Bob Horn, a well established engineer, he hears a difference in the metering in Pro Tools. Now before you come at me saying impossible, believe me I am a skeptic at heart, and I haven't experimented with this yet, I did find it interesting. Also, this only matters if you do out of the box summing, it doesn't apply to in the box mixes, which would make converters and other variables a factor with testing.

I commented on the video and said if you can do a blind test and pick it out 100% of the time maybe there is something to this. The null test didn't seem to prove right or wrong with the tester, I'm not sure he's qualified to be the spokesperson on this anyways.... The end where he says placebo or not, if you hear it is making a difference, or how you "FEEL" than do it, this is not a good enough answer for me.

I don't really use pro tools anymore anyways, I have been using Logic and Luna if I'm not composing in Reason 13.

Selig would be the right guy to comment on this one :)

How can a null test not prove right or wrong? To me, it sounds like clickbite.

What are you going to believe, your eyes or the so-called "length test" ? ;)

To my eyes these meters definitely sound much more pro. I bet they even taste sweeter. :puf_wink:

If the title has a question, then deffo clickbait, and usually the answer is the opposite of what's expected.

Also, looks like we have a 'Protools Sound' then. : )

He did not explain his test, and claims “science” doesn’t work because humans make science (or something along those lines.

the most common reason for a mix export not nulling with itself is reverbs or other random based FX. It only takes one to cause a null fail.

The tests I would do, and I WOULD do the tests because they are easy and because I don’t like fooling myself, are as follows. Start with an empty session, import any stereo mix. Then export twice at all the possible settings. Then do the null tests. If they fail, do a blind (or double blind if possible) test. If you can’t pick out the correct files every time, leave it and don’t look back.

It’s not really that hard, takes less time than making a video about it, and settles the issue once and for all IMO.

Yeah, but only on Snare Drum tracks. For Bassdrums, the meters in Studio One sound the best. I simply love that shit... :D

I even read comments to make sure nobody beat me to it. I thought it would be the first thing to come to mind. : D

Fun fact: when thinking about developing REs, I wanted to make a jokey one, that just adds that specific ~ 8-9 dB to the signal, calling it a 'De-ReasonSound-er' (pun on De-Esser). The weird thing is, that I might have found some use for it in some odd cases.

You need to charge 199$ for it and sell in a sale for 39$. Everyone would buy it!

Yeah, I know the 200$, with 50% off sale, and further 50% off introductory price, where you save 75%; thus, you save 150$ by buying the product! To which I usually say: "either that...or I can just not buy it and save further 50$." : D

The fact he’s moving to Miami, after hearing he’s asking his audience to not trust scientific methods but to go with placebo or whatever, chef’s kiss.

D.W. (Read), eh? : D

Well, to get that pun, people must have watched the cartoon, Arthur.

But yeah, our (male) DW is usually right.
