If Reason Studios went bankruput...

*** This is purely theoretical. I've nothing to back it up, nor reason to believe this will happen. Chill ***
...do you think they'd release one final version that cuts ties to all the servers, so that we could use it indefinitely, without having to worry that one day it ceases to authorize? Obviously that would be only for perpetual license owners
...or maybe they'd make everything - Reason and at the very least RS's rack extensions - free?

Do we know of any such case in the past and how it was resolved? Realistically it would probably be bought cheaply by someone "for parts", who'd keep it alive for some time or offer a cheap upgrade path to their own software and over the time ported the most interesting stuff to there as well. I could see NI/iZotope acquiring it and selling Objekt, Algoritm, Friktion, Complex-1 and some others as VSTs

If they truly went bankrupt they probably wouldn't have chance to release a final thing or make it free. The server would be turned off and there would be a message on the homepage. The last one out of the building would turn off the lights.
But it's more likely they would get bought, and the new owner would most likely screw it all up! There are not many cases where a big software brand has been improved in such a situation.

Mm currently we authorise for a year so I suppose if they could do it quickly and cheaply they may release a final version.
If not they may just turn off the lights and it would be the only time I search for a cracked version of software so I have a working version of the last perpetual rs version I owned.

If this happens, you would stop asking questions about RS future...

I vote for a ban on topics like this. Hasn't this been discussed to death in every possible way imaginable already
If not, I suggest we change the name of the forum to ReasonNagging instead of ReasonTalk

I totally agree. Some ppl want to discuss the same topic over and over again....crimsonwarlock wrote: β01 Feb 2024I vote for a ban on topics like this. Hasn't this been discussed to death in every possible way imaginable already

It's a discussion forum. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others shouldn't discuss it. Just don't read the thread.

Well, moderators could, of course, simply merge all these kinds of topics, as they constantly keep regurgitating the same BS Problem with that is that, by now, it will probably halve the topic count on the forumLoque wrote: β01 Feb 2024I totally agree. Agree so far. We should discuss something useful and hijack the thread.

Where has this particular scenario been discussed?crimsonwarlock wrote: β01 Feb 2024I vote for a ban on topics like this. Hasn't this been discussed to death in every possible way imaginable already

People - myself included - have been asking about RS and Reason DAW future, or concerned about time-constrained off-line authorization; but NOT about what would happen in case of bankruptcy or take-over.
The topic has already been "banned" to The Kitchen, so chill (as I said).

Check my posts. Huge majority is not "doom & gloom", so definitely not "as always"

You can use version 12.5.3.d5 - it still authorizes "forever". That's a little loophole I found. Sucks for apple users because the loophole was patched in the following update along with making the M chips "native" to Reason. But for Windows users - v12.5.3.d5 is the bunker version. Previous and consecutive versions only authorize for a year.

Some sort of Legacy server in space for RE authorization? Didnβt Cakewalk do the same thing?

"Assuming there's going to be one..." (a topic also started by you) seems to start from the same or similar premise. Meaning that it also hints at some doom scenario where RS won't survive or get past the current version for some reason. Other topics like who will buy RS, which obviously would mean they need that, are in the same vein.

For anyone reading/future reference, this is exactly the type of discussion we wanted to keep on the forum, but also wanted it in a separate place for better organization.
To clarify:
This is a discussion of a hypothetical about Reason Studios and how they would potentially react to a specific financial situation. This discussion invites speculation to how they might react if ever in said financial situation.
This discussion is not about how to use Reason/REs/VSTs or other software/hardware, patches for sharing, technical aspects of operating the application, or a feature suggestion, user music or competitions etc.
Therefore it belongs in the Kitchen.

The early funny ones were all nuked, wiped off the face on Mars.

Unlike Bitwig, Ableton, Steinberg or Presonus I've no idea where RS is going or if it's even alive lately. This might have something to do with itcrimsonwarlock wrote: β01 Feb 2024"Assuming there's going to be one..." (a topic also started by you) seems to start from the same or similar premise. If they didn't put Objekt on sale today I would be justified to believe that - at the very least - Stockholm was nuked and RS is now limited to Ryan somewhere in USA. On the other hand, they've refrained from discounting Objekt for so long, that doing it now and out of the blue seems like a desperate measure to collect some paycheck money, so they could stay afloat

In case it's not obvious, I'm joking.
Reason is the only DAW I have currently installed and I'd love this to continue. I even recorded a video using Reason for Live 12 Beta forums, to explain why certain bug report filled by someone wasn't a bug (high-passing a sound might increase its loudness, due to phase shift).

Yes, that is exactly what it was meant to be & I agree with moving it to The Kitchen. Thanksselig wrote: β01 Feb 2024For anyone reading/future reference, this is exactly the type of discussion we wanted to keep on the forum, but also wanted it in a separate place for better organization.
