Once implemented, Spotify will not be paying royalties to tracks that haven’t amassed over one thousand plays in the year prior so they can pay more to the bigger artists. So cool
Spotify fucking over the small artist even more than before

Yeah agree 1000 streams per song is a lot for small indie artists.
Benefits the big major labels who probably didn't like the way revenue was shared even though they get a large payment in the first place.

I agree it's crappy but I would observe that 1000 streams is worth a couple of dollars.
Artists getting ripped off by "the man" is nothing new. They just keep finding new ways to do it.

What amazes me is that even with the lights switched on, artists are still bending over to take it.

I think that article actually says the new threshold will be about 200 plays per year. Still seems like a dodgy move. I have an album on there that I imagine wouldn't hit that threshold.

The 1000 per year is the one I’ve seen the most, so I don’t know why this article uses 200 instead.

I guess I'll have to live without my $ 0.47 /year for royalties

If that's what 1000 plays gets, then not sure if the fuss is about

One song having less than 1000 plays brings you about 1.5 usd (just looking at the earnings statement from one song of mine which had 26 plays last month and got 0.04 usd and extrapolating from there. Fun fact, same song had 64 plays on YouTube and made 1.34 usd).
Now, what if you have 15 songs like that, and your distribution costs for the year are covered just from that. Not anymore though. It does affect a lot of smaller artists without a big following or who don’t do marketing… like myself

Got to pay off Joe Rogan somehow to dump him.

It does not affect me much as I have not even earned enough to hit the withdrawal threshold yet.
For those artists with lots of songs if could really add up if they have a decent back catalogue but they are all 999streams for example. I can envisage some people using bot farms just to get the final push over 1000.
