I was reading on the Reason Blog a list of the top 50 producers. There were some glaring omissions. And some WTFs? Not on the list but IMO should have been, Flood, Rob Cavallo, Gordon Raphael, Ronan Harrism, David Allen, and Butch Vigg. Name a few of your favorite producers if you want, I'd love to read them.

1. Rupert Hine, sadly no longer with us. His personal releases are production masterclasses, besides the immense list of top acts he produced.
2. Trevor Horn. Especially for his work with FGTH and Propaganda. But also his own Buggles project.
3 Alan Parsons. Shouldn't need any explanation.

Simon Posford. Best music, cleanest sound, creative, I like everything he did. He was a guarantee for excellent sound quality and great music.

I love Nile Rodgers. I play bass. Nile is one of the greats. When I was in HS in the 2000s my friend group was really into 80s music. Jon Taylor is far and away my favorite bass player. He credits Nile Rodgers as one of his main influences. I will look up Todd Rundgren.

No one makes marine-scapes like plaamook.
If they do, I’ve never come across em.

Honestly though…once you start w electronic junk…aren’t we all producers?
I understand how bands have producers but really, all I do is produce stuff.

Perhaps I’m missing a point here.

Perhaps I’m missing a point here.

I really like the way that cheap digital technology has taken a lot of the mystique away from the producer role. I tend to agree with Steve Albini's point that in a lot of cases, the producer is simply the guy who asserts the record label's desire for a hit over the band's desire for creative control of their own work. I heard a podcast interview with Rick Rubin recently, had never heard him in conversation before and was expecting some sort of wizard-level genius. He came across as a bit of a dipshit

1, 2 and 3) Stephen Lipson. He worked with Trevor Horn / FGTH / Jeff Beck / Simple Minds / Hans Zimmer / Billie Eilish and loads of others.

Although Stephen Lipson is listed as the producer for Propaganda's album A Secret Wish, Trevor Horn's production style is quite obviously all over it. Same goes for FGTH. I pointed to Trevor Horn's own Buggles project, where his production style became clear. I suggest anyone interested to listen to Adventures in Modern Recording, which is basically a production masterclass (at least it is to me). And you will instantly recognize where the Propaganda and FGTH sound came from

Can't belive no one has mentioned kraftwerk. I've got the remastered boxset and the production is outstanding.

Or lee scratch Perry.

And its interesting and quite sad that I can't think of a single woman.
