What are your music related goals for 2023?
Gather up some half-finished ideas and finish them, get something released or scheduled for release
1) Finish an album cover I’ve been working on, both to brush up skills and explore the composition as it’s in the style I aspire to.
2) Try and improve my singing abilities.
3) Produce an original track in that style and publish it on bandcamp.
I’m mixing the cover album at the mo, so have a good start on that at least!

Learn drum programming (I bought two wonderful books for this).
What are the books? I suck hard at drum programming, could use some tips
Find my own workfkow with Reason that actually inspire me to make something that feels good.
I am kind of stuck at the moment. Downloaded Reason Manual to Maybe get any new ideas.
As soon as I open the DAW, I get bored. I want to blame it on Covid holiday depression.
January always starts a bit low for me, but it can only go upwards.

I’d recommend creating your own customized template with everything setup how you like it and a full complement of tracks with favorite sounds to get the creative juices flowing. I also got in a creative rut, but that was mostly because I started with the default template and went searching for inspiration in the presets, which feels like looking for a needle in a haystack.Yonatan wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023Find my own workfkow with Reason that actually inspire me to make something that feels good.

I have this ancient beast: https://www.musiciansfriend.com/books-s ... mming-book
But it looks like there’s something newer in their catalogue. But how can one resist being taught by a Mr. Badness?!

My wife and I just decided to make room in the house to get my studio back home (it's now in my office building at 100 Km driving distance). We are going to move our bedroom from the attic to another room below, and the attic will be my new studio space. It is a bit smaller than the office room it is currently in, but that's no problem for me. So, my main music -related goal for this year is to move my studio back home and have more time available in the studio (with all the perks that come with that).
It will take several months to get everything moved in the house, then move the studio gear and stuff, and setting everything up again, but it will be worth it. Seriously looking forward to this

Congrats! That studio setup is too sweet to be so far away!crimsonwarlock wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023It will take several months to get everything moved in the house, then move the studio gear and stuff, and setting everything up again, but it will be worth it. Seriously looking forward to this

There's even a slight possibility that I might get to build the new desk I want, as part of the whole studio move projectrobussc wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023Congrats! First, mix some of my bandcamp back catalogue and release it on Beatport. It's been a decade since I last released anything on that site then once that's done, the focus should be on effectively using the limited time available to finish as much material as possible and subsequently put it out there. Simple, achievable goals
Thanks for reminding me of creating template and favourite lists. I actually had that in mind months ago but totally forgot the need. Will delete all old lists and start anew with instruments and plugins and their most inspiring patches etc. It is exactly what I need to do. VST3 even got it more hard to navigate the selective process as they double so will need clean up stuff. And also put some effort into creating some combi patches that sounds great and not fiddling with each instrument every time. It is different modes of the brain so one need prepare for flow to be invited.robussc wrote: ↑03 Jan 2023I’d recommend creating your own customized template with everything setup how you like it and a full complement of tracks with favorite sounds to get the creative juices flowing. Perfect to do when one lost the spark. Some new year organizing and template building for 2023.
I churn out funky little tunes for radio & podcast production as well. Well, as funky as I can make them, considering my drum limitationsSuperology wrote: ↑03 Jan 20231. The Drum Programming Handbook

But I think you don't need them, cause you like ambient, fieldrecording etc..
Regret selling my Acrolite snare years ago - got mine around the same age too!!!
I remember lugging that rounded plastic case to school and back all through 7th and 8th grade!
I’m hoping to keep up my rudiments and drum line ‘workouts/warmups’ which I started last year.
