"Adding features". Translation: "unlocking features"?

So they're selling the chips to function at lesser capacity and you can pay more for full functionality.... lol

So soon you’ll be able to hack the hardware of your computer and jack the specs on the spit.
Cool.

Anyone remember the Turbo button? We all thought it was cool but all it did was SLOW DOWN the pc when you unpressed it....

And whilst we are reminiscing, anyone remember having to set a bunch of jumper links to display the CPU frequency on the front of the case in large vulgar seven segment LEDs (mine were green!)

The pencil trick is a little obscure knowledge from quite a few CPU generations ago: https://www.techspot.com/trivia/32-whic ... -unlocked/

I had one of those, but I also had software that would freak out if I pressed it.

So yeah, technically it didn't make the computer go faster, but it did need to be there.

It took a while for microcomputer software development culture to deal with clock speed being a variable.

That "turbo" button was a misnomer, as its real purpose was to offer an option to slow down the system so old software that used cpu cycles as timers could still be operated.

I'm not sure what you're clarifying.

I just added some more context on what this button did and that its name was rather just marketing hype.
