From Music radar:
I have no idea yet what is it about....

https://www.musicradar.com/news/42-year ... et-midi-20

• The Yamaha Corporation has funded the development of the MIDI Workbench, a software tool for MIDI 2.0 testing and compliance developed by Australian Andrew Mee.

• Mee has also updated firmware for the TB2 Groovesizer, an Open Source MIDI 2.0 hardware synthesizer developed by Jean Marais, a South African living in Taiwan.

And Canadian-based company AmeNote, founded by industry veterans Mike Kent (Chair of the MIDI 2.0 Working Group) and Micheal Loh (founder of iConnectivity) has designed ProtoZOA, a flexible Raspberry Pico based prototyping tool for MIDI 2.0.

Anyone care to post a link to something explaining why one should care about MIDI 2.0?

I think it's about resolution... increased resolution, and bandwidth... more instructions...
Idk, I'd like to read something more about it, I'm quite in the dark too...

It was a miracle that manufacturers all crawled onboard MIDI 1. Chances of that happening again...

MIDI 2.0 with a subscription model is only way forward. It will make us all better beat makers :D
I totally forgot MIDI 2.0 was a thing. Why does it take so long?

"benefits of MIDI 2.0 will include the ability to have devices communicate bi-directionally through a single cable, the ability to share configuration ‘profiles’ for devices via a MIDI lead, as well as smoother control changes and tighter timing."

I will wait first for everybody including reason studios to jump on MPE first...

I find MPE for music creation is really useful...

That sounds like… um… MIDI 1.0 SysEx. Except of course that it's the Wild West, but I can't think of how solving that problem would require as drastic a change as is suggested by a major version number bump.
"…as well as smoother control changes and tighter timing."
That sounds more valuable to me even though I personally probably won't benefit.

Back when I worked on MIDI drivers, the thing which I kept thinking would help a lot was per-note timestamps reported by hardware when the key debounced. With that, even after the note passes through firmware of unpredictable quality and then a transport (for example USB 1.1) of unpredictable quality and then arbitrarily many layers of software of unpredictable quality, a DAW could know when the note really happened and sync it up with other notes arriving from other places or perhaps merely capture gaps between the single stream of notes more accurately. I presume that would help with latency issues, but that was a long time ago and for all I know the relevant latencies have all gotten so much smaller that nobody notices any more.
