Hi all,

As I am certainly one of the oldest among us, I suggest that you listen to pieces of electronic
music that should not be forgotten.
Each time I pass on the forum, I will give you insights.
You can of course join me, but please! Like what was done in the beginning.

To begin with, I suggest a Belgian track from 1988.
Of course, we will listen to older than that, but tonight it's this piece that comes to my mind.
"New Beat" style at it was.

This masterpiece is even a decade older and was way ahead of its time:

But we can also go into the early 90s to another techno classic:

Or from the 80s Crockett's Theme performed in a great live jam by Kebu:

Great track. Not heard it before. Old skool house and piano house 89-93 (and slightly before stuff like that and Pump Up the Volume etc) are my favourite electronic genre.

What drum machine was used in that? wasn't an 808 or 909, thinking maybe a Linn Drum?

I was thinking more of a Yamaha machine, but you're probably right.

Thanks to all for your contribution.

Didier did some more beautiful stuff later, as Paris France Transit (funny they say "Space" instead of PFT on that video) :

As for age, I saw Wolfgang Duren perform this album live in 1980 (so I was there  ).

The melody in that track is very Floydy.

I was not there for any of these but they are very interesting! All these tracks were even before my parents were born

Certainly, that's one reason I like it, as I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan. But I do have both the Space album and the Paris France Transit album, both in vinyl, and the Space album also on CD, so it's not just the floydian influences :puf_bigsmile:

That's the name of the band is it, "Space"? as there was a 90's Britpop band called Space.

Yep. Space was a project by Didier Marouani. They made a few albums (I think, I only have the Magic Fly album), but the Magic Fly title song of the album was the only big hit they had, mostly in Europe IIRC.

But then again there were 2 bands called Nirvana. One in the 60's and one in the 90's.

New Beat was really big in Belgium. In Holland, it was house all the way.

Gabber came later, when the house started splitting into different genres. That's 1992/1993. It was everybody one-upping the other one by going higher with the tempo and more with the distortion. I like this one, a real sign of the times:
