How to remove burning rubber smell from Beyerdynamic headphones??

Bought new Beyerdynamic headphones and just out of the box I noticed that they smelled really bad, like burning rubber/wires. Just that nothing is burning, they work perfectly fine.
Never had such problem in my life, headphones are new and never used before. All my previous headphones from other manufacturers, such as AKG (nor with any other hardware, laptops etc) did not have any smell.
It is like putting a burning tyre over your head and keeping it for multiple hours a day. Been using them only for 48 hours though. I have wiped the cord for now, which did not remove the smell. Headphones themselves, especially headband smells very strong, but the cord has even more terrible smell.
Any advice? I do not want to damage them because they are quite expensive and I doubt returning them would be a solution. Tried googling the answer and so far only alcohol wet wipes was suggested. Anything else beside that?

Send them back. Why suffer?

so they aren't supposed to smell like this? Damn, I thought it is normal for some reason. Thing is, the shop claims that I can only return them for 30 days, and I already have them over a month, just that I wasn't using them since I had another pair of headphones (AKG, planning on selling them) and these Beyerdynamic was just a spare ones for me.

You could try burning some hair. That might mask the odor some. If that doesn't work, try playing some Take That thru them; their music stinks so bad, it's sure to mask any odor.
Maybe you can't remove it, but you could replace it with some essential oil directly on the offending parts of your headphones.

Take That is gazillion times better than current crap modern 18 year olds listen to. I wouldn't call it a music even just mumbling and same hihat pattern throughout entire song. I could rant about this for 4-6 pages!
I am skeptical it would work, seems like the smell is ingrained into material itself. It is like as if they manufactured it from refurbished rubber and forgot to remove the smell. And the smell is nothing like supposedly new hardware should smell. It is simply like putting a burning tyre on your head, that's how bad it is and I am not exaggerating. Will try to take them back to the seller and see his explanation. Otherwise will order exactly same pair but from Thomann this time.

Congratulations, and welcome to being old. You’ve just said almost exactly the same thing that was said about the music you love, and the music before that (that’s not music, it’s mumbling): that’s not singing, it’s talking (rap), that’s not singing, that’s screaming (rock), that’s not music, it’s noise (every genre eventually)!Propellerhands wrote: ↑11 Jun 2022I wouldn't call it a music even just mumbling and same hihat pattern throughout entire song. Just take solace that those same kids will one day be saying essentially the same thing about whatever the next generation calls “music”…

That's the thing, I never considered RAP to be music even when I was a teenager. It was just rap, that's all. Old school rap was at least musical and I can appreciate a handful rappers to this day, even some modern rappers are good, but most of them sold out.selig wrote: ↑12 Jun 2022Congratulations, and welcome to being old. Nowadays RAP is literally mumbling and weird sounds plus hihats throughout the track. All generations of men said the same about RAP music. It just goes downward spirall for some reason and gets worse every 5 years. Just like my dad used to listen to Status Quo or Led Zepillin, I still listen to same music occasionally and my opinions did not change about it so it is not an age thing as experience thing. I am pretty sure at least some zoomers of today will see the light when they get older.

I don’t think I was clear, but I also realize this is not the thread for this subject (Which is being discussed elsewhere).Propellerhands wrote: ↑12 Jun 2022That's the thing, I never considered RAP to be music even when I was a teenager. Will baking soda/water solution damage the cables/headband of the headphones? For now I just used alcohol wetwipes and keeping them outdoors but away from sun

Yes. Water is bad.

I could buy new cable from Thomann (since they only ones selling it) but that would not fix the smelly headband issue.
Too late, already soaked the cable and will report results tomorrow after it stays for a while and dries up. Pretty sure the smell won't go away, it is what it is, will order new pair next week and sell this one for half the price perhaps.

Still awaiting the reply. So far only Thomann replied saying it is not normal. Either way, I think it will be much cheaper to just replace both cables since they smell the most (both coiled and straight). Of course shipping is gonna cost similar price as cables combined but at least I won't have to buy new pair of headphones (which I planned to do before).
Headband seems to smell a bit less anyway, after cleaning it 100 gazillion times.
