But it did have to happen. That's causality for you. Bit of a one trick pony.crimsonwarlock wrote: ↑19 May 2022We are loosing them fast. First Klaus Schulze and now Vangelis

Deeply sad.
Amongst my musical heroes, that made made part of me be a musician, he was always perhaps the the one ending up as the favorite, the most magical.
No one played synthesizers sounding so organic.
No one was so brilliant while having no musical training. Yet to me, he was one of the musical genius of XX century.
Unfortunately, his music was not the same anymore in the latest times, the age was taking it's tall.
Nevertheless it was conforting to know him alive.
And yes, sadly, Klaus Schulze was amongst those heroes of mine, also. As well as Edgar Froese, lost earlier.
I feel old, with the great ones dying around me.

I had a post here, but it just goes to show, even the most irredeemable ReasonTalker is worthy of forgiveness.
I ask your redemption, and then reject it, of course.
Reason is the reason.

Besides Blade Runner (and Chariots of Fire), friends gave me a Hearts of Space episode with Soil Festivities in it (when it first came out around 1984). I was so inspired I started making music “like that”, and a few years later was signed to MCA/Master Series (and later to Hearts of Space Records!). Would have never started down that path without hearing Vangelis’ music, especially the non-soundtrack recordings. His blending of electronic and acoustic instruments (and field recordings) was exactly what I needed to hear at that point in time. RIP Vangelis.

Soil Festivities is still one of my favorite Vangelis albums. My first Vangelis album was Spiral. It was the first time I heard a sequencer as an effect instead of playing melodies like the Berlin school did. It was entirely different from the other electronic music I listened to at the time, like Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream. Later I found Kitaro, who was heavily influenced by Vangelis.

According to several media outlets in Greece, Vangelis died of coronavirus in France, where he lived part-time.
I discovered his music from Blade Runner (1982). At that time, Vangelis refused to release the soundtrack music, explaining they were not complete songs. So I resorted to renting a stereo VCR in order to tape-record that music! I recently bought the 4K Blu-Ray and streaming Dolby Atmos version. I like numerous tracks from his 2007 release "Blade Runner Trilogy (Music from the Motion Picture) [25th Anniversary Edition]".

I never thought the released OST was as good as what was in the film and how it flowed.wendylou wrote: ↑20 May 2022According to several media outlets in Greece, Vangelis died of coronavirus in France, where he lived part-time.

However, I did at one time have the entire film sound ripped to MP3 and I'd just listen to the whole film at work. It was an interesting thing to do actually.
