Just splurged on a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20. Massively overpowered for my needs, but it's oh so pretty (and it really cleaned up my old setup of a combo USB audio interface and Behringer mixer for managing the inputs and outputs - it was a nest of wires). Now it's beautifully clean and is lovely to look at and touch (and very happy to have separate monitor and headphone levels!).

I think that's my last purchase for the foreseeable future. Eventually the aging iMac will finally age out, but I have an M1 Mac mini that's waiting for something useful to do, so perhaps a splurge then on a monitor, but they're so cheap it hardly counts.

My family and I traveled to the USA for Christmas. It's their first time here (and their first time in snow). It's been a great vacation; we've been having so much fun and spending way too much money (the US sure got expensive since I left). I decided to get myself a keyboard/controller since choices are limited and expensive in Vietnam. I got a used Nektar Panorama T4 and absolutely love it! It is perfect for working with Reason. But one of the pads was triggering other pads, and the pad repeat button was triggering one of the pad, too - obviously defective. So I took it back and got a refund. I decided to spent another $80 for a new one but the T4 is sold out everywhere for the next 6 weeks, and my plane leaves 3 weeks from now. Luckily I was able to find one on Sweetwater along with an expression pedal. They should arrive in 6 more days. I should have held off on returning the initial used one so I could at least keep playing with it until the new one arrives. The T4 plays so nicely, I hope that pad malfunction doesn't start happening on this one.

Using a Scarlet unit to replace one of my beloved MOTU828s.
It has less inputs, but that's fine for my apartmental set up. Still got one functioning 828 down at my drumb space for handling multi track drum recording and the occasional willful sideman.
This is the life I dreamed of as a willful teenager...
