I don't agree that the better the music the harder it is to exhaust it.
I've heard things that are amazing absolutely but that don't have repeat playability. And then stupid things that get stuck in your head and played over and over for years. And then very odd things that you can't stop playing very intensely and then you can't play it any more. And of course great things that can be played for years on end.

But sure. Preaching to the choir here I guess...posting something like this.
I make music for a reason. You can keep all other art ultimately.
Books should have scores so I make them. Films are often just something to look at while I take in the sound generally, never mind just the score. Visual art...just album/track art to me in the end. Everything feeds back to music in my mind.

I agree.
And I'm not sure what "better" means either, in terms of a universally agreeable scale. My "Comfortably Numb" might not beat someone else's "I'm A Barbie Girl"
In many ways I think it is also beyond the music, and there is a lot of contextual significance. e.g. where we are in our personal development when we first heard the song, what was going on in our external world around us, the additional factors that affect the imagery/emotion/association of the music eg the video or scenario it was used that made it famous. Even the brand reputation of the artist.

Do we have to intellectualize everything, even music? I say NO. I'm not doing it. AND THAT'S THAT!

I used to enjoy Peterson quite a bit during the time when he blew up. Nowadays whenever I hear his voice I perceive it more as nagging than anything else. Maybe I OD'd on the guy.

There was a time where I listened to a lot of his lectures etc and just considered it all.
I agree w a lot of what he’s said, not all of it, but I think he was part of a movement to get people thinking in different ways which was very interesting.
The strange thing was how certain friends of mine treated me like I was being converted or absorbed by a cult or something. And these people seemed to really relish his breakdown. It was like they really wanted to point it out to me.
I thought that was pathetic. I still do.

Unfortunately with all the videos online about how he 'took down' someone he was debating with, it seems more about "winning" and shutting people down, than exploring a bunch of ideas and celebrating different perspectives on any given topic.

He seems to have mellowed a lot of late which is a good thing.

But all that 'take down' garbage was in the comments section of his debates. That's not him as such. He's brutal, or can be...I'll give him that. But many of the people he was up against were just flaccid often enough.

Anyway, staying on topic rather than talking about ol' JP...

I def find that the music where I've had to discover it's more profound qualities the most rewarding. I don't know if you can describe that as 'good' or 'better' music etc but it's a specific thing that all art can do I guess. Perhaps what we tend to call challenging.

There was a moment when I was a manish boy where I sort of got Indian Ragas, as a song structure etc, and it blew my head off. Debussy. Tron from Deathprod. I remember 'getting' Hendrix after a few years of listening to him. These aren't things I play all the time. They were more like moments that were in a way bigger than the usual love of sound but that shaped both my relationship to what I listen to and to what I make.
In a way the only thing comparable was the moment I realised what I wanted to do with sound myself...saw the path ahead.
