What are you reading?

I don’t watch Netflix series so there’s not much to discuss there for me.

But I finally got round to starting Dune and so far so good.

Funny thing is I’m a big fan of the Culture novels by Iain Banks (may he rest in peace) and now all sci-fi kinda happens as though it was somewhere in that universe.

V by Thomas Pynchon. Mind-blowing and a big inspiration for a lot of contemporary wtfness, but good lord the politics has not aged well.

Recently read The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen which I really enjoyed. Gave a pretty scary look into alzheimers / dementia. Now I'm starting As I Lay Dying by Faulkner

I planned to do that but failed.
Up side is I liked the film so much I don’t mind it setting the stage.
And friends of mine that like the books a lot rated the film quite highly.
So maybe just go for it.
It prob more bearable than the shock of someone else’s vision!
Film was great. The sound was amazing.

The Power of Rock. A book by Danny Kegel, who spent ten years in a prison in Peru and the story goes about how music changed his life.

He gave me the book after a studio session.

Patanjali is great. The samadhi bits anyway.
If you’re interested check out lectures and podcasts by swami sarvapiyananda. There are loads but it deals w that subject exhaustively. It’s a very illuminating breakdown if it all.

Autumn of the Patriarch, GG Marquez. There are no paragraphs!
Tried to read Pynchon so many times, guess it wasn't meant to be.

Frank Herbert has wrote some marvelously odd books, my faves are Hellstrom's Hive and Whipping Star.

Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. I've read it before, but after watching the TV series decided to brush up on it.
I think, the TV series got it all wrong, they invented their own story, introduced superheroes, whereas the book was about careful analysis and the triumph of science. Asimov was also a proponent of empire and mocked liberals, which doesn't fit well with the current agenda. Empire has been portrayed as an absolute evil in movies since the first Star Wars.

I've seen many translations of Tao Te Ching, most are too down-to-earth, grounded. As it says: "the detached one sees its essence, the seeking one sees its realizations".

When i finished Annie Proulx's, Foresters while keeping a detailed character list (cos I have memory prollems and I knew I was in for it), I turn to the end of the book and there's a family tree diagram!
Much like finishing Clockwork Orange only to discover a glossary at the end!
I likes reading, next to musics, it keeps me alive.
