hi.
just a stoopid question:
is it 0kay for naming mixed and mastered songs with phrase "final demo version"?
i got an reproach from a friend that it is very lame and stupid. like: why in the hell would you name finished song with that phrase.
meaning: demo is demo.
i do not know.
i decided from the very beginning to name my finished songs with that phrase.
becasue songs in WIP stage are demo songs. and they can be changed. including mixing and mastering.
so final demo version. and also why final demo version: because these songs are not mixed and mastered by a professionalist.
i am not that skilled. almost zero. i have lets say 70 finished songs but only 10 of them are finished by mixing and mastering.
that is the reason that also mixed and mastered songs are demo. i have not that much confidence in mixing and mastering.
so that's why demo. and then final demo version.
ok, it's 00:42AM here in slovenia, i drank i think around 10 coffees, so pardon for potentionally misundertandable post. hehe.
i apologize if so.
so:
is it 0kay to name finished songs (mix and master) with phrase: final demo version?
my naming of mixed and mastered songs: "final demo version"

No, the international song name enforcement agency will beat you up for doing it! Trust me, I'm totally a dolphin.

From my perspective, the only question is whether the name communicates something important. And they are your tracks, so you get to decide what about them is important. If you think a track is worth sharing but you haven't yet decided whether to have it professionally produced/mixed/mastered, then putting notes in the name seems reasonable to me. It might tell someone that if they like it they should look around for a version which sounds better. Or they should offer you a recording contract. Or whatever.Rising Night Wave wrote: ↑07 May 2021and also why final demo version: because these songs are not mixed and mastered by a professionalist.
The only thing you could do that's truly stupid is make multiple "final" tracks such as:
- My Great Track (final)
- My Great Track (really final)
- My Great Track (really final TUESDAY)
- My Great Track (really final TUESDAY this one)
- My Great Track (really final TUESDAY this one #2)
- My Great Track v1
- My Great Track v2
- My Great Track v3
- My Great Track v4
- etc.
- Shocker: I have a SoundCloud!

It is definitely 0kay. Whether it is okay or not remains to be seen
I come from software development, so I name my tracks as follows:
<track-name> <major version digit> <dev stage> <minor version number> <any comment>
Like in "My Track 2a13 (sounds rather awful).reason"
Development stages are:
a = alpha
b = beta
c = final
r = release
This way the files are sorted well within the folder.

I'm so offended by the concept that I don't think I can even finish thiRising Night Wave wrote: ↑07 May 2021

It's not unusual that I add "Final Shit" after the title whenever I think it's then final releasable version.
Of course whenever I've thought it was the final version but it really wasn't, there has also been the occasional "Absolute Final Shit" or "Absolute Final Shit 2" (and 3) as well. And then after a couple of days of more certainty the Absolute Final Shit version gets renamed and goes back to being just "Final Shit".

I do that. More or less.orthodox wrote: ↑07 May 2021I come from software development, so I name my tracks as follows:

X1.1 x1.2 etc
If it’s a radical overhaul it’s x2.1 x2.2 etc
And song files are saved as such.
Minor adjustments don’t get new song files but bounce will be called X1.3.1 for example.
Masters are just called X
As for mastering...it’s prob not because you’re shit. I know great producers, chap who does my mastering actually, always sends his stuff to get mastered. Fresh ears at that point are very handy.

I just call my friend "final demo version" and he's ok with it. That's why he's my friend. Thx "fdv"
