"an" atom, "an" electric toothbrush.
Yeah, just consumerism. I was looking how long Spam lasted on the tin the other day. Tin said 2 days (U.K tin) and I ate some on the third day lol! Still here. Got me thinking just how I think these companies say this to make you chuck it and buy more. The internet said a week.
David Attenborough said the best thing we can do to help climate change is not waste anything, especially food. Things need to change.

SpaceX could invent a Martian electric toothbrush lasting generations, while Oral-B could invent rockets lasting long enough for a one-way trip.

Yes, we all focus on our most important things

last week, I looked at the expiration information on a package of pepperoni—it said to use it within 5 days of opening. I’d bet the vast majority of the pepperoni I’ve ever eaten has been open at least a couple of weeks at a minimum, by the time I’d finished it. couldn’t believe it.Creativemind wrote: ↑28 Mar 2021I was looking how long Spam lasted on the tin the other day. Mine is a little over 2 years old Still works great, although some of the brush is wearing away.
My Braun toothbrush lasts a year, tops. But if I put new batteries in, it's good to go for another year!

The mad thing is they'll spend $ooooo on martian elec toothbrush RnD. And it really will last for years. Titanium this and hydrogen engine that. Spare no expense.
In another gen we'll all be able to buy 'the space brush' for some stupid ammount the kenedy space centre visitors centre or your local iron monger's (if they're any good)
But in the back of our minds we'll all know that the Russians would have just used manual toothbrushes....

I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to have more, but for a typical use case, how many are really necessary? even using four or five of them for cue mix sends still leaves plenty of room for a reverb or two, and delay. I don't think I've ever used more than four in a project (not counting cue mixing, in which case, it jumps all the way up to 6).
That "Eat within x days after opening." is mostly ass covering by the manufacturers as they don't know how well you keep your stuff clean after it has been opened. So they give a rather short time frame that has quite a large safety margin before the food actually goes bad. That's also warrented as they don't want to deal with court cases of nasty food poisoning.
Thus if you know some basic hygiene and keep your open food well cooled it will last much longer than stated on the box.
No need for conspiracy here, just some legislative ass covering going on here (aka better safe than "sorry", where sorry=bad press.)

I've used 8 on the most over the top mixes I've done. Glad I've not needed a 9th... Yet. Doubt I will though.guitfnky wrote: ↑28 Mar 2021I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to have more, but for a typical use case, how many are really necessary? even using four or five of them for cue mix sends still leaves plenty of room for a reverb or two, and delay. True, as I've probably never used more than 5 myself but I don't consider myself to be a professional so to speak. Other daw's have 10 or even unlimited. If you were to master in Reason for example, not that I'm a mastering engineer, I was told you want a meter for level, then a meter for rms (if the 2 aren't combined), then a compressor, EQ, stereo imager, maximizer and then a final level meter to make sure the final level is 0dB, so there's 7 and in some cases I've heard reverb is added to mastering but not always common so there's your 8. Video's I've seen online for layering a hardstyle kick (see attached pic) has 15 in the effect chain but I suppose they don't need to be sends, they could be inserts then bounce the kick down. Just always things are limited in Reason when they don't need to be. Should be 8 by default and then can add more 1 at a time up to 20 if you ask me, why would they limit it when other daw's don't?guitfnky wrote: ↑28 Mar 2021I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to have more, but for a typical use case, how many are really necessary? even using four or five of them for cue mix sends still leaves plenty of room for a reverb or two, and delay.
