What's the point of conforming to someone's opinion, running with it back and forth? Wouldn't it be better to bring something of our own into this world?bxbrkrz wrote: ↑02 Feb 202220 sec to read your reply. 40 to read the articleintegerpoet wrote: ↑02 Feb 2022
I have not read the article, but I understand NFTs, and authority is irrelevant.
Anyone and everyone has the authority to create or own an NFT for a song or a color or anything else.
They key thing to understand is that an NFT exchange is just a star name registry.
We all learned star name registries were a scam when we were little kids, right?
There must be a star name registry issuing NFTs by now. I mean, of course there is.

This site is definitely satire. The question is whether it is self-satire.

I'm almost embarrassed now that I did actually read the article. FWIW, it contained no surprises.
I am pretty judge-y about NFT (and cryptocurrency) because my day job equips me to understand the underlying principles.
And I cannot think of a software engineer I respect who respects anything to do with cryptocurrency.
All that stuff really is just a libertarian fantasy world.
- Shocker: I have a SoundCloud!
And yet we will not escape... Twitter. Paypal, Youtube, Ubisoft, etc. All in "NFTs", whatever that mean, and the people will be forced to love it.

A pure gold cube worth $11.7M is sitting in Central Park with security
A cryptocurrency is also being released alongside the cube, called the Castello Coin. It will be traded as $CAST and is now able to be purchased online at $0.44 each. An NFT auction is also scheduled for Feb. 21.
Gallerist Lisa Kandlhofer noted to the art publication that “the cube can be seen as a sort of communiqué between an emerging 21st-century cultural ecosystem based on crypto and the ancient world where gold reigned supreme.”

Wishful thinking. "We represent the progress, while others got stuck in the past". Just a promotion campaign for another useless market of derivatives.

Brie Larson promotes NFT on Twitter, fans say Tony Stark didn’t die for this
Brie Larson has recently come under fire from fans who are not happy with her decision to promote an NFT on Twitter
Brie Larson has recently come under fire from fans who are not happy with her decision to promote an NFT on Twitter.
Star actor of Captain Marvel and The Marvels, Brie Larson, recently posted an NFT from ‘FlowerGirlsNFT’ as her Twitter profile picture, which may not have been a good idea considering how her fan base reacted. Flower Girls claims that 20% of its primary and secondary profits are donated to a variety of children’s charities, this may have been a factor in Larson thinking it would be a good idea but fans were quick to call her out.
The controversy around non-fungible tokens, including environmental rights and the plagiarism of artists, had fans bristling and annoyed at the Captain Marvel actor’s choice to promote the crypto trend.

One of my tracks was caught up in this garbage and I was pissed. I've been following cryptocurrency and NFTs since pretty much the beginning and knew from the very start that they were all trash and solutions in search of a problem. Anyway, I immediately fired off a DMCA takedown to their host and they'd deleted their website by the time the host could respond. The RIAA (as much as I don't like them for past actions) has issued a scathing letter with which I agree wholeheartedly. In my experience nothing NFT bros do is done in good faith and any involvement with artists of any kind is not done to benefit said artists. It's so toxic.bxbrkrz wrote: ↑02 Feb 2022Internet FACTS:
NFTs use more energy in 24 hrs than all the Google servers, Facebook servers, Twitter servers, TikTok servers. 97.3% Combined, to be exact.
Musicians have taken to Twitter today to complain about a website that is ostensibly selling their music as NFTs without permission. HitPiece claims to sell one-of-one NFTs, meaning each one is singular and unique (as opposed to the endless iterations of ugly monkeys we are now subjected to).
"Each HitPiece NFT is a One of One NFT for each unique song recording," said the HitPiece website. "Members build their Hitlist of their favorite songs, get on leaderboards, and receive in real life value such as access and experiences with Artists."
There's just one little snag with this plan. According to many of the artists whose songs are being offered as NFTs, HitPiece doesn't actually have any authority to do any of this.

Big Corp, Big Media, Big Social, the video game industry. All in with their "NFT" too. I would not be surprised to see an official ntf.gov showing up one day too.killhamster wrote: ↑06 Feb 2022One of my tracks was caught up in this garbage and I was pissed.
