Covid-19 has me struggling to finish songs...anyone else?
I live in CA. The "lockdowns" are really messing with my creativity and desire to finish songs that I NEED done.
Professional projects too, in which I have a deadline. I just find myself struggling to have the patience to COMPLETE.
Everything is stuck in "Pre_master" phase now. And I keep wanting to just make NEW stuff. Overly critical.
Thinking every song is a waste and stupid. Thinking every arrangement is off and every mix is "wrong".
I thought that this time off would give me more musical focus, but it's kind of the opposite. It feels dull.
Anyone else going through similar?

And even prior to covid19. I've always had this struggle of being overly critical and wanting to move on to a new track. Now that I think about it, I guess I see it as telling myself the current idea I'm working on isn't special and I need to reset. This happens way less when I'm working with really good vocals or something to motivate me along.
I've been in a slump for a while now, but this whole end-of-the-world thing is definitely making it worse...

I concur. Us Musicians are of a different breed. There's some that make their greatest moments in times of distress, but I'm not one of them. I'm still saving everything that I'm doing lately, but it all sounds "Blah". Perhaps 10 years from now, I'll stumble upon that old Covid 19 project and use that one snare hit to create a ballad inside of Grain 3.0 Lol.
Props to all the Trent Reznor's out there!

For me it's been the opposite. I've managed to finish 7 tracks in the last 2 months, which is very unusual for me. But I'm not sure this is related to this C-19 situation at all.
I'm getting a lot "done" but the focus and drive isn't there. The desire to complete something. It takes energy to sit and master a song for hours on end.TritoneAddiction wrote: ↑12 Apr 2020For me it's been the opposite. I learned CUBASE though, and a couple VST plugins. Having fun on that end.

I am using this lockdown time to get shit done! I was struggling to find time to mix an ep with work and family stuff. I have extended it to a full album and want to get it mixed and finished before I have to go back to work! I'm anxious about the crises but this time I can spend on my art is a gift.
Finished pr crap for album 3, release on 28th april. Didn't kill the label boss with my mk2 long range lazer eyeball
Just trying to finish off a mix to go w the album release
Wrote 3 songs and dozen sketches and little sound design organisms. Few new processes for prob album 4
Cracked a long stnading synth problem
Now I just need to get to the fucking sea

It's not just Covid - 19, but the politics of lately. CNN has gone off the deep end on "Everything is Trump's fault" for the longest time now.
Everything is Sexist, Everything is Racist. Killing Your unborn Children is the new cool, and they need more funding apparently.
Oh, Happy Easter Everyone!

when it first started to hit the fan a month ago or so, I thought I’d be finishing more stuff than ever. but the reality was, it had gotten so stressful seeing such drastic changes everywhere that I couldn’t focus on anything, let alone music.
the last couple of weeks, I’ve settled in, and I’m back to working at about the same level of output again, or maybe a little higher than usual.
good thing a couple of months ago, I decided to scrap the original concept for the album I’m working on (a sci fi space opera), and swap in a new concept (how screwed we are, thanks only to ourselves—we’re really leaning into our own stupidity with this whole covid thing, especially here in the states). bad for us; great for art!

Depends.
You can't really describe objective reality properly without arriving at determinism imo.
Subjectively, I'm pretty pro choice too though.

Knowing I don't need to go anywhere is really freeing creatively for me which was totally unexpected.
