so could anyone chime in and actually say what audio companies have died ? or have they just been taken over , i can think of synapse orion , actually synapse still going of course but there daw is dead
Emagic - makers of Logic. Bought by Apple who promptly dropped support for the Windows version and rebranded Logic as their own. So the DAW did not die, just the company and the Windows side of it.
no but it didnt die its stronger than before it just changed from pc to mac , i dont know any of them big

Reason keeps 'dying' over and over again like Doctor Who.
If you bought the upgrade to 11 a few days ago then you've answered your own question.
Not dead.

I remember reading threads asking this same question in 2004 (and every other year), saying that Propellerhead was doomed for sure and going to fall apart in a few years.

Reason has been through a lot worse, IMO. Maybe someday things will change in such a way that I'd want to go through the hassle of relearning all my accumulated muscle memory and figuring out a new workflow with another DAW, but for now, Reason is powerful enough that for me it's still the path of least resistance. I can work quickly in it and get music done so I can get paid, and that's what matters. There are still things I want it to do that it still doesn't yet, but in these past couple years there are fewer and fewer of them, and I've yet to find another platform that does everything I want.

and even if it did die youd probably be good in it for a few years yet even at the current version , i reckon someone would buy it out anyway i think were safe for now .

I thought Saw Studio was dead, turns out it isn't, but still looking the same as it did back in the 90s, this DAW doesn't age

http://www.sawstudio.com/products_sawstudio.htm

Edit: I think Saw is indeed dead, just tried to click on purchase to see its price and the link was dead, so Saw might be some kind of zombie DAW?
THAT hurt my eyes :exclamation:

oh no this thing has been commercially dead since it came out, but it's niche & serves a big purpose standalone or as a vst plugin.

What’s dying is people’s brain cells. All you negative Nancy doom and gloomers out there in forumland sure do like to speculate, lol.

ok so i guess i worded it wrong i meant big softwares like logic , cool edit pro , cakewalk , sony acid pro , some of these products died but got taken over so they didnt therefore die , i think the same would happen with reason because its too good a program like the others just to be abandoned , if they slightly update some things further it would keep you going for like another good few years , its just when newer operating systems come out that you would have to jump ship , i couldnt see such a cult program like reason being buried completly myself , hopefully im right.

We're not doomers or gloomers. We're critically observing the writings on the wall. I guess we can finally predict Reason's fate after the next major update was announced... if that happens.

Reason wasn't dead since version one. Surely even a company like RS have their KPI after which they are going. Maybe so far they always took the backseat behind the big, universal DAWs out there but it never went so bad for them to scuttle their product. The miserable 11 update either means that they are doing too well or too poorly.
Trap is where music goes to die.

All I know is that discourse sounded a lot like this a while ago:

FORUM: Well, despite having stated many reasons why they don't offer VST support, Propellerhead needs to add VST to Reason or else it will DIE.

PH: *adds VST*

FORUM: Adding VST support is a clear signal of PH's desperation, so now we know they're gonna DIE.

If it hadn't just received a new release update with a major new feature, totally redesigned the website, updated it to work on the latest mac OS , hired a new CEO, shaken up it's third party dev policy, teased at new features for the next point release, on the back of version 10 receiving a ton of great new features and instruments and a rewrite of underlying code for enhanced performance, then I might wonder about Reason having a pulse. It looks pretty lively to me.

i didnt say it was lol
i just use it as my main daw
rack plugin aint of no use to me unless reason cut the daw side of things and i unwittingly had to move to cubase or something then i probably would coz i like some of my instruments refills 🙂

I'm only messing around. I just think it's a ridiculous thread when so much is obvs going on with Reason Studios. Take a look over on the Geist 2 forum if you want to see what a dead platform looks like!

yeah it is a crazy thread although what i think people could mean is they could dump the daw part and move on to promoting the rack , but i dont think thats happening atm im up to date with version 11 so even if they did dump it wouldnt be anytime
soon so doesnt affect my life , so i guess your right time should be worrying about the songs we are working on lol not where the next daw is coming from as i think reason is good for at least a few more years yet , i do hope the point updates will have something for the daw users like me though .

Nice tweet, I am making my move back to Ableton but don't want to completely stop using Reason so upgrading to R11 for the plugin rack might be now the right choice... and I think once they implement the midi out for the reason rack, we might get it next for Reason DAW?
