hello,
lucid dreaming is a fantastic way to be creative
however, i only have like 3-5 minutes of recall when i wake up
my ex girlfriend had like total recall of most of the senses
it pissed me off that she could do that
just now woke up from a nap and recalled that i was scrambling around
for fleetwood mac rumors vinyl
so i'm listening to that now
lucid dreaming is way cool
cheers,
j
Is Creativity a Finite Resource ?
I used to write down my dreams right after I woke up for some time and it was very interesting... either way I changed my sources for creativity to almost everything in life that can serve me as inspiration.
Since I started understanding music and art in general is nothing but a way of communication - like we use words to communicate - I understood everything can be a source for inspiration as well. So if I can talk about anything I can also try to communicate anything through music that is inspiring enough to create melodies, drums, basslines... and instead of writing down my dreams I started writing down any spontaneous idea that could inspire me writing a song, and that includes almost anything, from a dream to a movie, a picture, something I've seen on the street while walking... anything can be a source for inspiration

Add a shortcut for your smartphone's recorder on the home screen, and as soon as you wake with an idea, record your voice describing it. Even if it's a tune, hum it out before it disappears. I once read that Keith Richards always kept a tape recorder by his bed, and several Stones hits came out of this (others were from 'friends' he ripped off by secretly recording jam sessions - the asshole )

Is Creativity a Finite Resource ?
Yes. You die it's gone .
There's a definite winding down of the life force as you age , but I have seen some individuals who still have had a zest for life and a curiousity right to the end. One dude was carving birds every day in his 80s - and sharp as a tack. But that's a rarity - at least in the long term care facilities.
Writing and producing and engineering decent music takes a ton of energy to pull off - especially if you are one person doing all three roles. And it gets tougher as you age. Easy enough to come up with loops and riffs. But putting it all together to a high standard takes a great deal of effort. Using your brain like that for a long amount of time takes its toll. You really need to stay in shape! Even top level chess players have a rigorous exercise plan so they can stay competitive. I totally agree with Noplan:
So, anyways, yeah, creativity is finite. And the end could come a lot sooner than you think. But you can create the conditions to keep your spark alive. And to keep the energy needed to see your plan(s) to fruition. Stay in shape. And eat well. And don't always choose the easy path every day.

As someone who has worked in long-term care, I can say that creativity is gone before death as well...Many just have little or no energy to do ANYTHING in the last 5-10 years of their life. (and for some, the last years may be in their sixties...)

Humans take the easy way out all the time - unless there's a big payoff somewhere. You can get caught in a rut over time where you just live life the easy way - you could work on a tune and finish up those mistakes that are all over something you are working on. But, ahhh maybe later - just watch this movie right now, or watch this TV show, or go out for a few drinks, or just watch a few YouTube vids, or just play a game for a bit or just text for a bit or just check social media for a bit or shoot some pool with a friend or post more on the forum or go to the fridge for food or a few beers or......If you keep doing that over and over and over over time, you'll just train your brain to do things easy easy all the time.Noplan wrote: ↑03 Jan 2020Creativity can only be guaranteed imho if you take care of your mood. You have to feel comfortable or feel better by creating. In my experience, creativity is not something you have to wait for, you have to constantly create the conditions for it. And I don't mean that you buy a plugin, but rather eat healthy and do a lot of sport, for example.
