Ever do a song then realize it’s someone else’s?

Early this morning I was up and feeling creative as hell. Drums, guitar, synth, keys...flangers, choruses and compressors. A beautiful melody. Oh how happy I was. Then I realised I’d just recorded a disco version of Lullaby by the Cure. Fuck!!!

From me: no. But I have some other strange feelings: When I do my own song... and then listens to it for a few days... I became having feeling like I already heard that song in past - something like it is not my song.

The less complex your song is, the more likely it is that the song will exist. Some melodies are simply intuitive. That has happened to me several times.

Hahaha. It was two chords on an electric piano, a melody on a Juno and then I played two harmonizing lines on my guitar. Somehow the combination of the four sounded like a faster version of Lullaby. I know what you mean about certain strings of notes working just together though.

I'm really good at recording a bassline, fiddling with it in the piano roll until it works better and then realising that it's the same as The Jam's "Town Called Malice" (or several Motown songs).

This is not the best bassline in the world. This is just a tribute.

That’s really funny. When I got Reason 4 I also recorded Town called Malice hahaha.

I read in an interview with AFX once that he get so far with a song, dumps it thinking it's someone elses, then realises it's actually one of his own. He's been a pretty prolific chat these long years, figures really.

Afx dumped his entire back catologue of unreleased shit form the very beginning right on through on soundcloud free to DL. Hundreds of songs. It's gone now but you can still ind it on the torrents. Most of it's just sketches but I widdled it down to a 4 hr play list.

I'll send it to you if you like. That is if the Gods of RT won't send me to hell for it. Not sure how it qualifies...it was free to DL at the time.
