As I would like to become more iconic than I am atm. I just slide forward and my music comes out as an accident and not that much of as a planned. I still aim to make a decent album full of electronic gems, but it's not that easy as it seems. I think I would need to change my lifestyle into more oriented one that it is.

I should probably goal up for a dedicated style and forget the rest.

You?

Cultural icon:

A cultural icon is an artifact that is identified by members of a culture as representative of that culture. The process of identification is subjective, and "icons" are judged by the extent to which they can be seen as an authentic proxy of that culture. When individuals perceive a cultural icon, they relate it to their general perceptions of the cultural identity represented. Cultural icons can also be identified as an authentic representation of the practices of one culture by another.

In the media, many items and persons of popular culture have been called "iconic" despite their lack of durability, and the term "pop icon" is often now used synonymously. Some commentators believe that the word is overused or misused

In the world I built inside my head I am extremely "iconic". It is a world I have to build over and over again when I dream.

I'm a legend in my own fish tank.
Best advice is to carve yourself a niche and hope you get a following, don't follow every trend, get good at what you want to be doing and be honest with yourself. As soon as you start trying to be like someone you can only hope to be nearly as good as them.
99.9% of success in music is wearing the emperor's new clothes. If you want to be known for doing good music do good music. I convinced people I could do what I do long before I could actually do it.
Do the open mic nights, book yourself for gigs that nobody is likely to show up to. Practice. Fall over and get back up. Just say you're going to do it and do it.
If you want to make an album tell yourself when it's going to be finished and work at it. It might not go to plan but if you don't have a plan you're screwed from day one.
Here's the story of how I go a song finished.
I told a friend I would write a song for her dog, she kept asking me how it was coming along, I finished it.
here it is...
Since then I've used that as a backing track for a youtube video that previously couldn't be arsed to do and I did another couple of mixes for other purposes.
Point being, have a goal and a purpose and you'll get more done.
@pushedbutton on twitter, add me, send me a message, but don't try to sell me stuff cos I'm skint.
Using Reason since version 3 and still never finished a song.

unique=different than everyone else
iconic=being known for being different than everyone else, and setting a standard others want to follow

striving to be unique is a good goal. striving to be seen as iconic seems a little egotistical to me.

which camp you actually fall into really depends on how you’re defining those terms for yourself, but if we go with the normal definitions, that’s basically how it shakes out.

Quite literally. Or mabe more a legend in the überfischtank being as I pretty much just make music inspired by diving (one of the jobs I do...)

I gave up trying to make anything anyone would even like years back and presto, people started likeing it!
Not quitting my day jobs or anything but still, I sell records and do the odd gig.

Growing oneself into an icon can be hazardous to one's health. Devised identities are nonviable. They can only eat one from inside and die together with the host. There are plenty of examples in the pop industry.

"Thou shalt not make to thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth." (Exodus 20:4)

Wait just a second here this whole time I was under the impression that you were the next Paul McCartney+Elton John+John Lennon + Bruce Springsteen+ Eric Clapton+George Harrison+Rod Steward all rolled into one, ready to flip everything upside down.
Are you now telling me this isnt the case?
