Man, I remember them from way back, I listen to them now, and I think they are brilliant. Desert Island I think the "completion backwards principal" is number one. But then again, "Remote Control" isn't bad either.
"White punks on Dope" is a staple and deservedly so. But I'm more "sushi" than that.
Anyone else care about this band or the significance of it?

I was 12 in 76 so when punk exploded onto the scene I was the perfect age to take it all in. My 2 fave bands at the time were The Clash and 999 and I still love their stuff today. Had Combat Rock in my car the past week.
I was never really into The Tubes but certainly appreciate their significance. From memory White Punks On Dope seemed to be on just about every punk compilation album at the time. That's probably not strictly true as it was so long ago now but I'd say it was the most well known song by them.
There's some stuff on YouTube so gonna have a listen now.

Old Grey Whistle Test 1977
Wow, that video takes me back. I remember seeing a picture of them in Kerrang magazine. It was like they were from another planet. Unfortunately, back then there was no Internet and in smalltown England my only access to records was via Woolworths, Boots and WH Smith so this particular kid had to wait a good few years to find out more.
That video clearly shows that the Mankini was not an invention of Borat but was, in fact, a product of the entirely sober and not-at-all-drugged 1970's. And they were real men back then. Why make your mankini out of spandex when you can use Bacofoil?

I taped inside / outside from my uncle when I was 12 - 35 years ago - and it's a terrific musical and fun album. Let there be drums!
