PSA: Touring Denmark? Avoid Ivan Rod of Gaffa magazine (SCAM ALERT)

Friend of mine posted this earlier:

Warning!

Ivan Rod, sometime Danish music promoter, part time writer for Danish music magazine Gaffa, booked me for 4 Concerts in Denmark earlier this year. He still owes me more than half of my fee, and he also pocketed the money from my CD sales at the gigs.

After numerous empty promises to pay, he eventually refused to communicate with me, or make any attempt at payment, or a payment plan. I was forced to contact a Danish attorney. Ivan admitted the debt and agreed to sign an agreement stipulating the same, as well as a payment plan. He has now refused to sign the agreement, and gone cold again, refusing to communicate or make good, even on this agreement.

I am an independent singer/songwriter, and my performance fees and CD sales are how I support myself. For a promoter to simply not pay the agreed fee, and also pocket the cash from my CD sales, is unacceptable behavior, especially from someone who uses his position as a music writer to gain trust and credibility.

Be warned by my experience, do business with Ivan Rod at your own risk.

Jonatha Brooke

Russians without necks. That's what you need to talk with. They have really nice jackets. They stand out like sore Russians in Budapest. That is the best place to find them, besides Russia.

First of all, Jonatha Brooke is a friend of yours? How cool!
Second, that really sucks - the music business is hard enough without assholes making it even more difficult. Hope this gets resolved and this guy gets out of the business…
:(

Sorry I was pissed on homebrew Vodka and I just recovered. Hard to believe that is even legible. I really can't handle the after effects. That is probably why I only do it every few days. I mean years.

Anyway, I was thinking about this highschool physics teacher I met in Budapest. We partied for about a week and after a couple days he took me to meet some Russians. Apparently they worked as collectors and enforcement of some kind, for the government there. There were about 20 of them in a room below Keleti station in Budapest. They just sat all night drinking, smoking and waiting to be called for a job. It was weird. All of them were huge with no necks, armed to the teeth, beautiful jackets and they looked so similar they could have all been related.

Turns out he married the daughter of a Russian oligarch of some kind and lives in great big house in the middle of Budapest. So your story just made me think of these Russians.

Here is my favorite picture of him. This was day three at a concert of some famous guitarist from Spain, but it wasn't Segovia. Anyone from Budapest recognize him?
