So since most of the talk around here are centered around rack extensions, VSTs, Reason as a DAW and how it can be improved, I thought this was a fair question.
Are you more obssesed about the tools you're using than the music your making? Be honest
I'll admit I'm probably 50/50. The tools/REs I use have a huge impact on how I feel about making music. Sound, an easy workflow and a good looking GUI are equally important to me. But in the end what should matter is the music itself, right?
Gear absolutely affects how and what I write. I mean I've done EPs with one instrument just to have an excuse to geek out on a particular RE.
What are you most obsessed about? Gear/plugins or making music? (Be honest)

The gear has an impact on creativity and sound quality. Where the difference in sound quality is only audible with more experience, but than it's clearly. Sometimes i just dabble around with gear and try out things, try to create sounds and so on. But if the creativity flows, I don't care about the gear that much, that means i need to get the job done quickly, where the experience i earned through dabbling helps a lot. I know than how to get what i want. So i would say it's 50/50. And in the least time i try to manage my GAS and check, if i realy need it.
So to get it done, you need the right gear AND the creative ideas AND the knowledge of your gear. If the idea is written down, it becomes more technical where knowledge of mixing and mastering helps.

Reason12, Win10
The tools influence us in different ways. I'd be lying if I said I'm not obsessed with hardware. I search hardware on Youtube for hours sometimes just because I enjoy it. Plus, I own a small handful of guitar pedals that I use in my productions and I really feel that they add something that digital plugins don't.
But.. With that said, all that really matters is what comes out of those speakers. No one cares about what VST/RE I used to make what, or how I did it. It just needs to sound good. Not just melody, but tone and quality as well.

Someone told me I could use his Motif ES8 (I told him I was looking for a midi controller) he wasn't using anymore. No expiration date. My guess is I'll be looking into gear in the next few weeks, way more than software, or until he changes his mind

The music is really the most important to me, and is somewhat special. Something that you can reflect on later and have for the rest of your life.
Part of the fun of Reason is of course, the visuals. If I load up Studio One and want to add a delay on a VST it's essentially a pretty boring process.
With Reason it's like your playing with the hardware itself.
So for me the act of getting new Re is always like getting a shinny new toy. I've bought way to many and made Props slightly rich.
