Black Panther: How Amazing was it? Amazing Amazing or Amazing Amazing Amazing?
According to every single professional critic, Black Panther is the most fantastically sublime Marvel movie ever made. Forget Marvel. Best scifi movie ever made.

I can't stand the politically correct-hyping of this obviously overbloated just-another-superhero-movie.
And I find the whole controversy about racism surrounding this movie rather racist.

This was more or less my reaction. It paid lip service to a few social issues, but the story was definitely geared towards ticket sales. I applaud the black cast and hope white people will go see the movie so more minority driven films get made, but this movie was nothing special. It was the usual marvel combo of good action, good cgi, and some good one liners/jokes. The hype is a bit sickening though. White guilt I think.
Furthermore, this movie was kind of racist if you ask me. It shit all over Africa and third world countries, with the only rebuttal being that we the audience knew about Wakanda. Except Wakanda is a fantasy, so all those insults are in reality un-rebutted. I wouldn't be surprised if some black intellectuals come out against it. It's pretty patronizing in my opinion.

No idea. Being a white male, some zealots of this movie might strongly object to my presence in the theater.selig wrote: ↑18 Feb 2018So you’re saying you didn’t like it?Gorgon wrote:I can't stand the politically correct-hyping of this obviously overbloated just-another-superhero-movie.

Those stories were made up by racist trolls using old photos from Google image search.
I'm sure there's nothing at all to the obsession certain zealots have with trying to take down this movie as opposed to any other overhyped movies.

I did not enjoy this BP film, either. I am a huge Marvel fan... Been reading Marvel comics chronologically since Dec 2009 starting with Silver Age Fantastic Four from 1961. I am currently in 1976 and over the past year or so I read the 18 part Panther's Rage story. I really didn't care for 90% of it. I was sincerely disappointed to find Panther's Rage as the basis for this BP movie. I have always liked the BP since buying comics as a kid in the 70s.
The slathering of Lion King-ness was cringeworthy and totally counter productive.

I do love me some afrofuturism. I dunno, I'll probably just watch Sun Ra's movie again while I wait for BP to get to streaming.
If you ain't hip to the rare Housequake, shut up already.

No, but I DO know that attempts to flood review sites with fake negative reviews ARE being blocked, as well they should be!

Flooding review websites with fake negative reviews, that's indeed fake news.

On the contrary. Being a black male, no sensible person is against anybody seeing it. If some one actually said otherwise they're an idiot and should simply be ignored.
Of course. But common sense is a rare thing these days, with this whole gender fluidity, hating on accomplishments and excellence (everybody should be equally stupid), and "white folk are evil" concepts.
I would judge the film for what it is. A film. But if people are trying to convince me that I'm already the bad guy because I MIGHT not like it, well, I'd rather not see it at all.

If you're interested in the film then you're interested in the film. Who cares about someone thinking you're a 'bad guy"? The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is 76% so clearly there are people who aren't in love with it. People have different perspectives. A large part of America thought Trump would make a good President... such is life.Gorgon wrote: ↑18 Feb 2018Of course. 'the whole controversy about racism surrounding this movie rather racist' - discussing R is R....
'object to my presence in the theater.' - self-fulfilling...
'negative reviews of this movie are not allowed' - but FAKE ASSAULTS and REVIEWS are being reported....
'people are trying to convince me that I'm already the bad guy because I MIGHT not like it' - doubt that's happening.
IF IT's PEOPLE on the INTERNET...., LORD, that's not PEOPLE either... those are BOTS.
If only we could all meet at Cosplay...

I saw it on Saturday - fantastic film. I've seen every MCU film to date, and I have my fair share of criticisms - this one had few. It was structured well, beautifully shot, had fantastic performances from pretty much everyone involved, and was just overall a fun film to watch.
That said, there's only so many times you can re-hash a basic storyline and make it watchable. Every MCU film has the same thing in common, though some are more of an origin story. This one wasn't really an origin story - more like a logical procession of events for the main character. It was very Shakespeare - probably more so than the original Thor was.
It's disappointing seeing some of the comments here, as it appears a lot of the fear-mongering that racist white people (yes, racist white people) stirred up worked. There is absolutely no reason to fear going to see this film just because you're white. That's just silly talk. And the "getting people registered to vote" thing - why is that even a bad thing? In the US, getting minorities to exercise their right to vote is critical (I mean, unless you're a white racist, in which case - fearing that makes sense). So what if some people used this film to get young people involved?
I don't know - I'd say Ant Man was probably my least favorite MCU film, followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron. Black Panther was more enjoyable than both of those put together.

It is advisable to stay away from the Twitter extremists and trolls. And just watch and appreciate this movie for what it is. It is a superhero movie based on a fictional comic book character not some sort of racial political statement.
And the Marvel Movies tend to get good reviews anyway because they are good genre pieces. No one was complaining of political correct whitewashing when Antman, Dr Strange and Deadshot were getting great reviews? So why do you suddenly get pissed off when Black Panther does well?
When Blade came out in the 90’s, it was absolutely huge at the box office and no one complained about racial politics. In fact Blade started the whole MCU thing, it was the first Marvel movie that was actually decent and also successful financially even though it was based on a largely unknown character.

I absolutely loved the original Blade! It tapped into everything that I thought was awesome back then: vampires, rave, an ex-porn star, and sword fights. It hasn't aged so well, though.miscend wrote: ↑19 Feb 2018When Blade came out in the 90’s, it was absolutely huge at the box office and no one complained about racial politics. The only reason people are complaining about the alleged racial politics surrounding Black Panther is because of the current discord that has been seeded in the US due to the current POTUS and his predominantly white/racist followers. It truly is sad, and makes me ashamed to be American.
I have a good friend who tends to lean conservative/right, and he told me he hated Black Panther. When I asked him why, it became clear that the crux of his issues were the fact that he's basically a closeted bigot. The film is no worse/as good as most of the other MCU stuff, so it makes no sense not to like it. I mean, if you have some valid complaints like pacing or you didn't like the score, then fine. But there was nothing in there that makes it a bad film, by any stretch!
