It seems SoundCloud isn't going to last a lot longer.

Any thoughts?

What do you think is the next platform for sharing your music? Personally I think it's sad. They were on their way to something big a few years back.

Died when they got rid of groups imo.
It is not too much of an ask for people or things to be the best version of itself!
I will have to find another receptacle for my garbage.

I remember a time when MP3.com looked like it was going to be THE platform for indie artists, forever and ever. That was around the time when MySpace was THE social website and everyone had LiveJournals. Things change. Other things will move in to fill the gap - eventually.
mp3 rules the roost, but there are different forms of mp3.
There is a dull sheen to everything uploaded to soundcloud. It's like everything was produced by the same person and the same computer.
Most people don't notice it, but it drives me crazy (and my ears are old and fucked)
No low end, no top sizzle, and not much in between.

Doom and gloom press for sure, but it's not over yet.
If it does go under at some stage, I think I'll put my energy into YouTube. I have a Bandcamp presence but don't find it inspiring for discovering music. The only problem with YouTube is the additional effort to attach your audio to some sort of video content (even if it's just a static image with the song name).

I was referring to the website "mp3.com", not the mp3 format. Which, I guess, goes to show how something that once was so big now is hardly remembered.

Would it be that hard for SoundCloud to emulate Bandcamp's "model" -- and just let people sell their original music? Seems pretty simple if they want to survive. If not then "Last one to Bandcamp's a sucker" ... as the saying goes.

It died a year earlier when they did that bloody awful site overhaul and turned it from being easy to use and well laid-out, to the fucking mess it is now, in the process making it difficult to even find groups you were in, as that option was removed from the main overview page.
Then they killed groups because, apparently, few people used it. "Well, no shit, dumbasses, you removed the fucking links to it!"
Alternatives to Soundcloud?
Any suggestions here?

Bandcamp doesn't seem that popular outside of artists and people following buy links from artists. Just my general impression.Oquasec wrote:I guess the usual? youtube & bandcamp?
YouTube is alright but I'd like a music focused site. Like if Spotify didn't require an aggregator to get your music up there.
Maybe ReverbNation could take over? Don't like it as much as Soundcloud but it could work.

Whelp, SoundCloud's twitter has just spoken otherwise!
