So this thread is designed to generate some new ideas, new ways of creating music and to invite experimentation.
We all get stuck in old habits of doing things.
Sometimes all you need is one new random idea or work within certain limitations.
Here's a couple of ideas I came up with myself to experiment with. Feel free to steal them and try them out for yourself if you want.

Switch typical instruments roles. Let an instrument do a part it wasn't intended for. Let the flute do the bassline and the bass guitar play the melody.

Put effects in a weird order. Why not drench your lead in reverb and then put distortion on it afterwards.

Do everything the opposite way you've learned things. Bass, and bassdrum in the center? To hell with that. Let's pan everything bass related to the sides and have the high end material in the center.

Play around with different dynamics. Jump from super quite to super loud in a second. From happy to sad. Fast to slow.

Put a time limit on your creation. You've only got 2 hours to finish your tune and that's it.

Use your least go-to devices. Break your typical patterns.

Choose a picture or painting and try to write music to it.

Use a lyric line or a sentence to come up with a rhythmical pattern for a melody or a drum beat.

Limit yourself to a certain couple of notes or a scale.

Let a dice decide what tempo the song should have, what key, what scale etc.

Create a song with your own ideas/rules and se what happens and post it here in the thread. Don't worry about the end result. The end result might become a complete fuck up. That's alright. But you might also stumble upon something new and exciting. Let's just have some fun and try some outside the box thinking and see where it takes us.

A random idea generator I've used before is to load a percussion or drum rex file, copy to track and then browse other percussion/drum rex files or even instruments to get odd patterns and sounds.
Came up with some unique song starters this way.

Hit randomize pattern on redrum for 64 steps
Hook the redrum up to the boom 808 percussion re(feel free to get wild with effects).
Export the audio to .rex and drop it into dr octo.
Hook up a matrix to control the dr rex and hit randomize pattern on the matrix.

This method was use to create this:
