Hi All!

Someone mentioned on another thread of mine about an old rave tune containing the Amen Break so I thought I'd start a thread about it.

This was the tune:-

Also contained in this great Prodigy floor filler:-

And in this other jungle track:-

There were a few old skool house tracks that contained the Amen Break but can't think off the top of my head.

Any others? apparently D'You Know What I Mean? by Oasis but that's Alan White drumming so not sure.

Absolutely every man and his dog used it.

Nasty, nasty loop imo, too much mid range (causes hearing loss), sounds dirty too. Prefer the far beefier drum machine versions.

Agreed, it's a nasty, dirty loop. Which is why I like it - to each their own! It only "causes" hearing loss if you play it too loud (not sure why that got mentioned…).

Beefier is nice too - horses for courses I say.

The Amen Break - a six-second drum solo in The Winstons' 1969 track Amen, Brother - has been sampled by artists including The Prodigy, Oasis and NWA.
But its writers never received any royalties from those recordings.
In an effort to correct that, fans set up a crowdfunding page which has now delivered a £24,000 cheque to The Winstons' frontman Richard Spencer.

It might not be as clean as some would like but I think it's a great loop myself. I've even got a rex file of it, can trigger it in a dr.octo.rex, great!
