Daniel Johnston used to record his stuff in his parent's basement using just a two channels tape recorder - i think - and a keyboard. His mother had difficulties to understand his artistic aspirations. One of these times Daniel recorded her and over it played a musical theme. Here is the result:

The cover art is from him too. I think Daniel proves that in art the idea/concept is more powerful than anything and in the right context becomes genial. He is one of those artists who walks in that thin line between being ridiculous or genius.

My favorite Daniel Johnston song was recorded on a tape deck before you were born. There's a lyric in the chorus where he talks about joy and it held my hand through an infinite void.
