hello,

i just found this
it sounds very good dynamic range
it starts off so quietly

i haven't watched the entire concert yet
it is on in the background while cooking mixed lentils curry with coconut milk
black rice with citrus and ginger
and steaming 2 different cod fillets
one za'tar (sp?)
one thai green curry seasoning

thank you for the 'olafur arnalds' connect

at 8 minutes in, the guy talks to the audience and samples the entire audience with a middle c
and then uses it in the next song
talk about interacting with the crowd
wowza

still watching / cooking

cheers,

j

turns out, this guy does vst's for spitfire audio, go figure

"Been listening to him for a lil over 10 years... Own all his VSTs he did with Spitfire Audio... And yaaaa he's just a master performer. Definitely go see him if you have a chance!!
Even the lights were on point."

another wowza moment

Yeah, I've seen a few interviews with him and he seems like quite a cool guy, very funny. This is a video of him talking about his studio if you'd like some gear envy

hello,

gonna watch the studio visit video later tonight

this popped into my youtube choices
wonderful, brilliant, somber, solitude, hopeful, longing
2 hours worth of bliss

it is an interesting study in mixing / panning / reverb
just to close your eyes and feel how the sound moves around between 2 speakers

cheers and eat well,

j

here are lyrics someone posted in the comments
they go well with me at around 3 minutes

I hate you

I hate loving you, even though I don't know you

but I do love you and love you so much

My life only exists with you, even if I have never seen you

Without you, i'm lost in the multiverse

and I can't find myself in your nonexistence

I cried and smiled with you one day

but all this was in a distant memory

that is intangible to both of us

I´m cold and don't know what to do

I only know to love you

Do you hold on for me?

I will get better one day

Hold on for me

Hold on for us

The day will shine for us to cry and smile

when our feet gently touch the sky

I will shout my love for you

and I will forget the hate I felt

I hate myself for loving you, even though I don't know you

but I do love you and love you so much

END OF LYRICS

i love stream of conscious writing

Sorry, I'm spamming this form atm.
Anyway, was listening to one of my New Zealand favorite artists tonight, Peter Jefferies. This is an amazing song he did...

And here's Cat Power doing a really solid cover.

Peter Jefferies is basically the poet laureate of NZ underground music, and also a very talented musician technically. Recently he put all his albums on spotify and they're all A+; if you like this id recommend last great challenge in a dull world as a place to start.

Laura Cannel..Simultaneous Flight Movement
I'm a big fan of early music and she's the one of the only modern composers that can touch that stuff imo.

Blanck Mass: World Eater

Also, a mix of HEALTH, Aurora, Drab Majesty, Public Memory, Skinny Puppy, Lamb of God, Pharmakon, Protectorate, Boy Harsher, Ministry, and... Tears For Fears, among many others (including a smattering of classical music). 😅

Might actually switch to Arvo Pärt and My Dying Bride, music befitting this season of the greyest days and darkest nights, with miserable cold and wet weather, and wind that chills you to the bones being the norm, only momentarily overcome by those glorious, glorious fall days of sunshine and little to no wind, during which the world seems to bask in almost supernatural technicolor hues, the sky, the bluest blue you can imagine, and the leaves, screaming yellow and red.

honestly if you'd said to me, here's an animation with some cats drawn in the style of a mascot for a Japanese sweet company and they do covers of modern pop songs except they sing meow meow meow in place of the vocals I'd have been like, that's a hard pass. But no, they're actually astonishingly well done, so detailed and technically polished. The cover of Roar is nuts good. And also very funny.

Live Prodigy show from July this year in Brixton London.
The way the their catalogue is mixed together is incredible, then there's really banging new stuff, Keith Flint flash backs, and overall such a banging show, love that Brixton was well into it which made this video. I think seeing these guys these days is something to aim for.

I'm really enjoying the new album from Halsey. It's called "Badlands" and it's full of hauntingly beautiful pop songs. I also recently discovered the band Kamasi Washington and I can't get enough of their jazz-infused hip hop sound. Lastly, I've been revisiting some old favorites like Michael Jackson and Beyonce.

hello,

@jappe: wow, what a wonderful song

i added it to my 'boat songs' for sailing across the river styx

even before i read the cc captions thing
(it is a boat song)

gonna do a deep dive on the band / artist

very emotional impact for me

i have the song on loop now

thank you

j

i answer with
enya 'boadicea'

i first heard the song as an enya song
not the samples that played out through further days

the enya song is better than any of the songs that used samples of said song

I really like this song. The lyrics. The dance. The production.
As someone who can't really play any instruments, these types of songs (and edm plus hiphop) feel like the hight of laptop bedroom producers.

That whole debut album by Enya is thoroughly under rated. Sounds amazing ing if you slow it down and put it through some distortion and reverb.
