Aphex Twin. Honestly I can't decide if he's the most important figure in contemporary music or a complete and utter wanker. Q

A remake of TDK's "Space Duregungle (8bit mix)" from 1996, on the Elektron Analog Rytm MkII with live melody playing on top of sequencer tracks.
The SY CHIP engine of OS 1.70 was used for all melodic & drum sounds on Channels 1-3 (TRK 1-4), with a few additional sounds on other channels (analog hats & cymbals, sampled BD ACOUSTIC kick etc).
All recorded live in one go, direct from the main outputs - no compression or EQ applied.
See my earlier video for details on SY CHIP, for other Commodore 64 SID-style sounds.

I recreated the title music of "Commando", the Commodore 64 game from 1985 - on an Elektron Syntakt. To do this I reverse engineered the 6510 assembly code of Rob Hubbard's driver and analysed the SID chip timings in extreme detail, in order to emulate it as close as possible on the Syntakt.
Just like the SID chip on the C64, I'm only using three monophonic channels.
Some text on the process and inner workings of SID tunes on Commodore 64 is available as well.
Sound is taken directly from the Syntakt’s outputs.

He's one of those artists who I feel I should like, but I get bored listening to him. It's like he manages to be incredibly impressive and weirdly un-engaging at the same time, it's the same way as I feel about Radiohead

I was in NYC a few years ago and a friend dragged me along to a gig where a groovy chamber orchestra did an entire evening of Aphex Twin tunes. Now that was a wank

One of the last great guitar bands. They must have been astounding to see live at their peak.

yeah, it's hard, right, because like I said, he's probably the greatest musician of his generation - and by his generation I mean, my generation because we're the same age. and there's no doubt he's an amazing drum programmer and stuff. But I feel like while a lot of his stuff is intellectually or technically interesting but there's not a lot of heart in it which is a shame because when when he does get around to melodies they're amazing - you know, stone in focus or bucephalus bouncing ball or the opening track of the richard d james album or xtal - but that's about it - and also you really get the feeling he's kind of an arsehole in real life. Which is weird because it's kind of hard to imagine someone who is so clearly a dickhead being able to make something as genuinely lovely as rhubarb.

see he's releasing an 'expanded' version of SAW 2 later in the year because it's too short at the moment. So yup, well done richard, you're cleverer and more successful than I'll ever be.

Wow, progrock meets synthwave, and by one of my favorite bands. This is so awesome. And as my birthday is coming up, I already know the CD is coming my way :puf_bigsmile:

Never heard of them. Really like this.

So, after hearing that Sony bought the Queen catalogue for 1 billion dollars, I decided to download all the Queen stuff from Spotify in case they somehow trash it.
Not sure if they can or will but it gave me a chance to hear some stuff from their post- classic era that I never really listened to much/or at all.
There's a handful of tunes I would listen to again post 1980, but there's a lot of stuff just not worth listening to ever again.

A Night At The Opera is classic. The Prophet Song >> Bohemian Rhapsody

Keep Me Fed - The Warning. Some great tracks on the new album and it’s starting to grow on me. This is representative (and the first track on the album) and the video is great.

Looking forward to seeing them in September.
