Hi all, I've been getting into chiptune lately and don't really know anything at all about who's who in the current chiptune music making scene (I hope there is a modern scene)! I'm looking for recommendations on modern or current chiptune artists or labels that have put out music recently (as in the past couple years to current). Thank you! In addition if you have any chiptune creations you'd like to share please do so with a little info about what synths and effects you used, etc..

First person who comes to mind is chibi-tech, who works at Japanese game studio M2 as a day job. While not strictly 100% chiptune, you might like "she," especially this one album. Also check out Yerzmyey for some micro-computer goodness.

Aside from them, you'll probably have a lot of luck just checking out the chiptune tag on Soundcloud et al. There's some surprising talent floating around on there. I'd also recommend checking out any artists involved with the Square Sounds Festival, it's a hotbed of chip talent.

And, of course, yours truly is known to do a soundtrack now and then. ;>

Awesome! This is a great start! Thanks for taking the time to reply. Quickly had a listen to a brief sampling of your soundtrack and I like what I hear. I'll be checking out more of that.

Some nice tracks:

Various:
https://soundcloud.com/gamechops (label)
https://soundcloud.com/chiptuneswin (community/label)
https://soundcloud.com/nightradio (this guy makes SunVox, and shares monthly best from users)
https://soundcloud.com/ocremix (video game remixes, some chippy stuff here but not everything)

Other artists:
https://soundcloud.com/pink_abyss
https://soundcloud.com/biggiantcircles
https://soundcloud.com/shirobon
https://soundcloud.com/blue-navi

Now if you go and check out who these artists are following, you'll find loads more ;)

Here's something I made:

Was planning to make a chip sound design series, kinda lost momentum but might happen at some point.

I have to recommend my brother SolarLune. He’s an indie game developer, so he composes his own music for his games. Uses the free mod tracker app SunVox to make all his stuff. Here's his Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/solarlune

I like this one, but you know I'm a Japan freak so be aware of that ;)

I you like what she does I'd definitely recommend to listen to Yunomi as well, even when he works more in a future bass direction, but I think he uses a very smart choice of sounds mixing electronic/chiptune like sounds with sounds that are almost analogue:

he participated, along with other artists, in the fantastic game "shapes and beats" where I discovered dozens of absolutely stratospheric artists.
I think the creme creme of chiptune genre (mixed with electro)

Thanks reddust and Karim for more recommendations. It’s really cool how chiptune has been incorporated into other genres.

I'm excited about what Markus Klein did with the SID chip. Hard to believe that this is possible with the C64.
