Re: New Korg Volcas

That Volca Modular is a really cool little unit, and maybe the right buy-in and size for me to want to try out west-coast-style synthesis in hardware. Honestly, it's less daunting than Complex-1, even!

Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

I have all 6 Volcas and 3 Boutiques (JP, JU and JX). So far I've struggled to really integrate them into my setup, for a number of reasons. Firstly I just don't have enough inputs. Secondly, the Boutiques are USB but the Volcas aren't, so to have them all running involves a Frankenstein setup where...

Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

I just wanted to add that my groovebox of choice is the Electribe 2. It got a lot of bad press. But I made an album with it. And i'm very satisfied (it's not out yet). It's a great machine, sounds great, workflow ain't bad once you get the hang of it (there are many shortcuts). Plus it's price is p...

Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

i'm looking a lot at the Behringer Neutron lately, will probably be my next buy... Oh man, I could write a whole other thread about synthesizers... I haven't picked up a Neutron (I can't get over its faceplate, though I'm seeing some awesome faceplate cover replacements these days) but it sounds pr...

Re: My year of grooveboxes and

Your assessment of the Digitakt was blasphemous! Lol jk, here's my sampler journey that has ended so far with the Digitakt. Hey thanks for contributing to this! I did give the Digitakt a pretty fair shake, but it turns out that that's not my workflow style. I recently picked up a Roland TR-8S and I...

Re: Propellerhead Partners with MIND Music Labs For Rack Extension Hardware Integration

A flexible control surface, lots of knobs, faders, maybe displays, and you can load it up with your favourite rack extensions to play live. Hell I'd get one! Hmm. I don’t think I’d be interested in a generalized surface, as that’s essentially what we’re already getting when we use something like a ...

Re: Propellerhead Partners with MIND Music Labs For Rack Extension Hardware Integration

Imagining a piece of hardware with the corresponding layout and knobs/faders for any of my favourite REs is very, very exciting to me. Just imagine an Antidote piece of hardware, with 1:1 control of parameters. Over the last year, I've fallen in love with hardware, not because of the sound, but beca...

Re: Roland TR-S8 Sampler Drum Machine

I think we're maybe having two different conversations. No we're not. That's a cop out. You said it was ironic for a Reason user to care whether or not it was verisimilar to the original. And I said I don't see Reason users that way, some of us want our hardware clones to sound nearly identical to ...

Re: Roland TR-S8 Sampler Drum Machine

I got a great deal on one of these yesterday. First impressions: sounds great, faster than Digitakt in its workflow, but still way too much menu diving and screen-staring for my tastes. To simply pan sounds, for instance, takes about five clicks and rotations. But it sure has a lot of power to manip...

Re: Roland TR-S8 Sampler Drum Machine

I don’t see it that way. You can’t really pigeonhole the userbase like that. Reason users can be as discerning as anyone else that takes their hobby or craft seriously. Buying hardware is different too from buying software, hardware has more upfront costs so you will take different things into cons...

The irony of a message like this on a Reason forum
On a Reason forum? Many Reason users are into hardware gear and a lot of them are on hybrid setups.
Yeah, I'm one of them. The "irony" I mentioned is that a Reason user would worry about verisimilitude.

Re: Roland TR-S8 Sampler Drum Machine

I sold all my Boutiques and Volca Drums . I sold my TR-8 and big DrumBRUTE . [ I do miss the immediacy of the TR-8, but I got good $$$, and it was time to let go. I may get the TR-8 back .] I used some of the proceeds to get myself one of these.... so's I can study Drum Sound Shaping... http://www....

Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

Update: Teenage engineering's OP-Z: Just superb. So many intelligent features built into it that I don't know where to begin. You get four "drum" sounds (I say that loosely, because at least one has chromatic samples that are great for playing as notes) and four synth sounds (which are designed arou...

Hey, botnotbot and O1B (or others). Just wondering how this purchase held up. Still liking the TR-8S? It looks like it might be an awesome solution for a drum machine, but I'm always curious about users' thoughts on this board. Thanks in advance for any info! Got mine. Re: FabFilter -25% sale

Here's some thoughts on various Reverbs: If I want to make TWEAKS to a Reverb, my favorite if FabFilter-R - The UX makes it really to understand what's going on, and it doesn't require much expertise in how Reverbs work For sound quality, I like Waves IR-1 for impulse-based. And believe it or not, ...

Re: FabFilter -25% sale

Not said to offend - and I apologise that it did. One thing I have been training (forcing) myself in the last 6 months to do... is that I have wrongly thought that I needed to find yet another reverb to buy to fix my sound requirements -- whereas... the real problem is my mixing skills are lacking....

Does anyone know about FabFilter’s reverb? I’m mostly curious about it over their other plug-ins. Because your audience listen to music, not...

Thanks for the informative thread, all! Does anyone know about FabFilter’s reverb? I’m mostly curious about it over their other plug-ins. Re: Email from Teenage Engineering "no one should pay this price for an OP-1"

Not to derail this from the Teenage Engineering OP-1 topic, but has anyone seen the new Synthstrom Deluge? It's $100 USD cheaper than the OP-1, yet has a massive LED grid pattern sequencer, almost limitless sampling, built-in FM and subtractive synth, built-in speaker, mic, and is battery operated....

Re: Email from Teenage Engineering "no one should pay this price for an OP-1"

I think the only "performance effect" in the RE shop is Peff's Buffre stutter effect, though I could be mistaken. I agree though - after owning the Pocket Operators (and seeing what OP-Z does), I think more performance effect RE's could really be awesome. I wonder why no one captured this market ye...
