Picked this up today used, for a song, from a guy who didn't click with it. More thoughts on it soon!

Re: Analog synth emulations vs sampled versions

Emulations all the way. Between the Legend and Arturia's fantastic collection, I really haven't looked back to samples since.

Re: The Elektron Model:Samples

More direct 1:1 knob:function controls works for me, as does having independent step lengths for each track, and I like that it has some of Digitakt's best features ("control all"). But I still don't know if the Elektron workflow is for me (I didn't care much for the Digitakt's workflow, even if it ...

Re: Moog Behringer D "I was Wrong"

For what it's worth, I haven't had substantial issues with tuning (or anything else on mine). There's a lot to love about this synth, and it sounds great, but the tiny stiff knobs (yes, I know how that sounds) and lack of MIDI CC aren't awesome. Still a fantastic synth at a great price, though.

Re: Just picked up a Novation Circuit this weekend.

Sadly, I predict less and less use of my Circuits as things progress. :( Alas, I imagine that's sort of the fate of the Circuit. It's the closest thing I've ever encountered to a gateway drug, and is more than enough to play a set, but our ambitions and designs keep growing. That said, I wouldn't r...

Re: Email from Teenage Engineering "no one should pay this price for an OP-1"

While that price is higher than I'd pay for an OP-1, people here really need to consider that boutique things are expensive to make. This is a small company making things in Sweden, not Behringer with a number of giant manufacturing plants in China. Sure, they're a smaller company making boutique p...

Re: Which REs deserve to get more attention in your opinion?

I know its function overlaps with many, many other synths, but Red Rock's Red70 (https://www.propellerheads.com/shop/rac ... nthesizer/) just has something special to it, for me, in its oscillators and filter.

Are the MIDI files included in this RE the same ones from the RDK ReFill or are they all new beats?
Oh, can answer this one...There's loads LOADS more midi files!
This makes it very appealing.

Re: Just picked up a Novation Circuit this weekend.

Well, you and I seem to be heading in a similar gear direction if you're getting the Akai Force. After a lot of agonizing about how to expand my setup, I went in to a local music store today with the intent of picking up a new Elektron Digitakt. However, while I was looking around, I saw a used Aka...

Re: Just picked up a Novation Circuit this weekend.

Hey Jay! The gig went really well and people were up and dancing a lot. I did two sets, with another more traditional DJ filling in between. The DJ was playing lots of "hits", but people seemed to like the "vibe" of the original electronica more. The guy who booked the event came up during my break...

So here's my live performance rig with 2 Circuits, the Arturia and an iPad running djay Pro. Hey, Cognitive, how have the sets been going? Did you ever get any recorded footage of that one show you told me about? After playing around with many other synths, it's always nice to go back to the Circui...

Re: 2nd hand market for REs

The fact that you’re functionally illiterate isn’t on me. Language like “retarded” is really shitty and denigrating, and totally unnecessary on a board about Reason (let alone anywhere else). And while you’re working on building your vocabulary, maybe check your logic on “you either agree with me o...

Re: New Korg Minilogue XD synthesizer

The more I think about this, the more I think $600 on any of the synths mentioned above is an utter waste of money, IMHO. For the exact same price, one could get a Teenage Engineering OP-Z, which is arguably far more powerful than anything talked about above for a similar price. While I don't disag...

The Elektron Model:Samples

My first impression of this thing isn’t hot. Kind of terrible name, six- (rather than eight-) sample layout, sort of halfway between a Digitakt and Circuit without the biggest advantages of either, and not very pleasing to look at. That said, who knows about its workflow and sound, but I’m hard-pres...

Considering it’s four synths, a four-track drum machine with sample flipping, two effects sends with four effects options, a sequencer, a performance effects player, and a master mixer with compression and effects, all in a package you can carry in your coat pocket, I think it’s well worth the price...

Re: Propellerhead Partners with MIND Music Labs For Rack Extension Hardware Integration

While I'd love dedicated hardware layouts for specific REs, I suspect we'll get something much more generalized, essentially a standalone device with a number of REs on board, and a generalized layout of knobs that can be mapped differently for different REs. I hope that if they go that route, they ...

Re: New Korg Volcas

Honestly: I don't like the tiny breadboard-style jumper wires for patching. For west-coast at entry level I would recommend the Makenoise 0-coast. For a higher price tag, I must admit. Makes sense, but honestly, I’m not interested enough in the west coast design or sound to buy in at that level. Bu...
