Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

Brilliant! I was concerned about the lack of effects (reverb, delay, etc.) on the Circuit Mono Station. Then I was like, "Oh look! The MPC Live lets me add insert effects on the inputs from external devices." Since I intend to use the Circuit Mono in exactly this way with the MPC Live, well then, pr...

Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

Well, speaking of little mono synths with knobby controls AND grooveboxes, I could not resist taking advantage of the half-price discount code for a Circuit Mono Station. I've been looking at various REAL analog boxes to pair with my Circuit and/or MPC Live. Turns out Novation just made my decision...

Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

So many toys, so little time. :D That said, this thread is giving me GAS. :o This is an awesome set-up. I've definitely gone the other route, buying and trying lots of things (and offloading them, too), with the notion of having many types of set-ups. But I recently got the Akai Force, as we discus...

Re: Akai MPC Touch - my new love affair

Another great feature, I hook the Live up to my PC running Reason, and can use the Live's auto sample feature to generate MIDI to play and and grab sounds from Reason synths and within seconds, the synth notes have been "played" back into the live, auto-sampled and assigned to keygroups within a ke...

Re: Akai MPC Touch - my new love affair

I do have an MPC Live. Prior to picking one up, I was doing live sets with a couple of Novation Circuits. Now the MPC is my "main" beast, although I do still have a Circuit in the mix just for the fun of it. IKEA_stands.jpg That said, I can now do entire live dance music shows with just a Live, alt...

You will probably be very happy with the Live. It is an absolute beast. Yeah, I can't wait to get it. Supposed to arrive today. Do you have an MPC Live? I do have an MPC Live. Re: IKEA: Cheap yet highly effective angled stands.

Follow up, I cut two 1/4" (roughly 6.5mm) strips from an old mouse pad, then superglued them rubber side out to the bottom contact areas of the ISBERGET. Now it's solid as a rock on my desk and doesn't slide around at all when I'm tweaking knobs on the Circuit. Hmm... but the black one you're using...

Re: Bring back RE-2A

I picked up the RE-2A right around when it was first released, and I keep going back to it all the time, mostly for vocals. For some voices, it just has that certain something that is difficult to achieve otherwise. I went through a period where I was using other compressors more often for vocals, b...

Re: Umpf! Crossgrade Code

Despite the "retro" moniker, there are some kits and Drum Sequencer patches in there that definitely have a modern, but more "analog" flavor to them. Definitely NOT just for "80s" or old hip hop sounds. Definitely worth the $24.50 to me for the crossgrade. I like using Umpf Club Drums already, so th...

Re: My year of grooveboxes and "toy" synths

So many toys, so little time. :D I've been trying to keep it as minimalist as possible so I can easily do live "plug and play" with quick setup and reasonably intuitive performance tools. I had been doing "two Circuit" setups with a couple of Novation Circuits as decks, plus a mixer and sometimes an...

IKEA: Cheap yet highly effective angled stands.

A couple of days ago, while walking through the local mega IKEA (think "Costco from Idiocracy" sized), I stumbled across these and they just happen to perfectly fit my Novation Circuits and my MPC Live. BRADA Laptop support - black - IKEA ISBERGET Tablet stand - blue - IKEA I'm sure these fit a lot ...

Clip launch via Kong?

If Kong had a mode where we could use pads as a toggle to enable/disable continuous play of Nurse Rex loops, and if we could have a per-pad way to enable a trigger "wait state" for timing boundaries anywhere from 1/16 notes to 8 bars or more, we would have basic, no fuss clip launch in stock Reason....

Re: Akai MPC Touch dropped to $399 USD!!!! (was $800)

$399 is a great price, especially when you consider it comes with the $200 MPC software AND whatever additional expansions and other goodies they throw your way. I have an MPC Live, which is almost the same experience in a lot of ways, and there's a LOT going on here. Oh, and you can run the MPC so...

Re: Moog Behringer D "I was Wrong"

I like the way the Behringer D sounds, but I would want to do live stuff with it, and for that I feel the need for preset storage.

The Roland SE-02 looks like an interesting alternative, and has automatic oscillator tuning, so no dealing with periodic maintenance.

MPC Software as VST in Reason

The VST version that comes with it seems to work pretty well in Reason. https://www.akaipro.com/mpc-software-2 Personally, I'm using the MPC Live hardware in standalone for performances, but I can also see a scenario where one could use the MPC software as a plugin for Reason on a laptop as an easy ...

These are 5 of the "bread and butter" REs I use in pretty much every production.

Selig - Coloring EQ
Synapse - The Legend
Blamsoft - eXpanse
Kuassa - Kratos Maximizer
Cakewalk - RE-2A

Re: Just picked up a Novation Circuit this weekend.

Okay, to follow up on the MPC Live synths, they are certainly sounding very good and musical to my ears. The Circuit's "Nova" engines seem more powerful in terms of controls, oscillator wave shapes, matrix routing, etc,, but between TubeSynth, Bassline and Electric, plus the integration with all of ...

Music Store "Pro Tip"

I don't know if this applies to most music stores, but this has happened to me on several occasions at more than one store in Los Angeles. 1) I notice a used item on the floor or in a case with no price attached. 2) It happens to be something that I could use or have been actively wanting to buy. 3)...

Reading all this has me excited to pick up that Force. Let me know how the synths are? Haven't tried the synths yet, mostly just getting all the MASSIVE amounts of extra content exported to the hardware. Interesting approach, where the PC (or Mac) workstation software and content that comes with it...

Re: Just picked up a Novation Circuit this weekend.

Okay, that's pretty sweet. I just registered my USED MPC Live, and had no issues with registration AND they (Akai) provided links and auth codes to ALL the latest software and expansion packs normally included with a new purchase. This kind of painless and generous treatment generates a LOT of good ...
