Re: session singers (or any session musician actually)
As a songwriter you do this all the time, unless you’re a great singer yourself. I was in Nashville so we had many options, but now with the internet you have even more. There are things to look out for, to be sure, but it’s not much different from taking a chance on a new voice. And if you DO happe...

Re: Things I never noticed in Reason, or are new…
Yeah this is how I work. There is a bug though, if Reason isn't open and you select to open multiple audio files with Reason, it will duplicate the first audio file that many times. For example, if I select and open "file 1" through "file 4" Reason will open with four tracks of file 1. And this get...

Things I never noticed in Reason, or are new…
Today I received an email containing a new version of a mix for me to reference in an on going project. I wanted to import the mix into the song file so I could quickly compare and see where I was "off". So in the email, I selected the mp3 and did a quick 'right click'. Up came an "open with" dialog...

Re: Any way for Reason to record Stereo Mix/What You Hear and/or use Integrated Mic as input source?
Edit: Wow, this thing is like using a cruise ship to cross a tiny stream. It seems like way too much for the simple thing I'm trying to do. I'll keep playing with it, but I've got a feeling that I'll likely keep doing it the same tedious way I've been doing it. If you need something simpler, maybe ...

Re: What does the "Q" stand for?
BTW, wish those shortcuts were momentary, i.e. holding W would enable the pencil tool, but letting go off the key would go back to whatever was selected earlier - it's very handy in Bitwig. I know this isn’t exactly what you’re suggesting, but I find it quite useful. There IS a temporary tool switc...

Re: Reason Studios 13 or 14 (Future Talk)
when you name tracks in the mixer they should rename in the timeline too The “problem” with this suggestion is that there are no “tracks” in the mixer. There are “channels” in the mixer, which won’t show up in the sequencer unless you automate something on them, which then creates a track (for the ...

Re: Elektor Formant 70's DIY synth
I always enjoy this guy's videos. I was aware of lots of synths back in the 70s (I was in high school), but never knew much about this one other than the name. I messed around with a borrowed PAIA in the late 1970s, which was a cheaper DIY synth from the same era as this one. They are often so quirk...

Re: Post your non-4/4 tunes here, plz!
Over my many years I've explored odd time sigs lots of time. One of my first 'written' tunes was in 15/16 (7/8 + 4/4) and I'm always going back and revisiting these ideas. Here's a work in progress based on an Absynth patch which I felt had a bit of "swing" to it. So I approached the drums with a mo...

Re: Way to bounce mix channels WITH sends/returns per channel?
I used the term sum because there was some (mis)information on the internet which stated that playing an audio file rendered from the sum of all the tracks in a Reason project file (so the rendered master out/no effects) sounded different than playing separate bounced mix channel stems placed in an...

Re: Way to bounce mix channels WITH sends/returns per channel?
Manually as in soloing each track and rendering the master [track count] times? If that is the case I have a question. May be a noob question. If you render one track at a time like this and the master has absolutely no effects activated on it, then the whole process will be completely transparent/...

Re: How to recommend Reason Studios to your friend
These threads can be annoying with butthurt fanboys cutting down other DAWs… Life tip (and forum tip) - if you get butthurt by a post, posting your annoyance won’t make your butt hurt less. No need to make personal attacks here, or to ascribe intentions on others - the rest of your post was awesome...

"Panel Sync": Not sure we're talking about the same thing, but I've wished for channel/track sync between Reason's three views since day one. Are we talking about different things? Running each panel (sequencer, mixer, rack) on a separate screen, hitting a track in the sequencer will bring the corr...

Re: Any way for Reason to record Stereo Mix/What You Hear and/or use Integrated Mic as input source?
yea, this is nothing to do with Reason - This is totally sound card/OS world here. For example, if I don't have an interface connected, I don't have "loopback", at least on a Mac. With my Focusrite, it comes in on channels 5/6. But with the Apollos it is 37/38! I don't know if "aggregate devices" ar...

Re: Way to bounce mix channels WITH sends/returns per channel?
I only suggested there was more than the "one available" you mentioned. We seem to now be on the same page? Yeah, sure. The same way one could say Reason has polyphonic audio pitch editing, because you can duplicate the audio clip to 2+ additional tracks and edit them separately. Or that it has tra...

Re: Tape Delays?
The breakout in The Echo is handy, but you can (and usually would) do the same thing with sends - although if you’re limited to 8 sends, as in Reason, maybe you can’t afford one for delay feedback. So in a way The Echo’s breakout exists to sidestep an arbitrary Reason limitation. How would you repl...

I get almost the same: the magazine, Reason.com, the dictionary definition, and Reason Studios.
And even before the name change, I'd be searching for Reason not Propellerhead. Which may be why they changed the name?

Re: Way to bounce mix channels WITH sends/returns per channel?
Luckily all ARE available - some DAWs are quicker than others, but all options remain available. Not sure what limitation you may be referring to? One approach has no trade offs, which is to use the original mix! That is, IF it is available – but the same caveat applies to stems, or even multitrack...

Re: Main Mixer evolution
We clearly have different views on the matter. My view is based on my experience with the mess that is "folders" in other DAWs. Especially as I have a control-surface in front of me with 24 + 1 motorized faders, and I've yet to see a DAW that keeps the control surface in sync with the folder-status...

Re: Any way for Reason to record Stereo Mix/What You Hear and/or use Integrated Mic as input source?
Are you trying to eq up a null, or eq down a resonance?!? Or something else? BTW, it's not the Control Room out that bypasses the export, as whatever is plugged into Hardware Interface 1/2 is what get's exported. So if you plugged your Control Room outs to Hardware Interface outs 1/2, you WOULD pri...

Re: Main Mixer evolution
This is how it is NOW, no? No, it's not. In Reason there is no specific location-relation between a bus or group (whatever you name it) and the mixer-channels feeding into it (same as with hardware). To have "groups = buses = show/hide = folders" (as you stated), the channels must be adjacent to th...

Re: Any way for Reason to record Stereo Mix/What You Hear and/or use Integrated Mic as input source?
I got feedback once (a few years ago, so my previous setup) and decided to sample it and use it in the song I was working on. I avoid unexpected feedback by not using automatic monitoring mode. Tip for your setup - connect Control Room output to the Sample Inputs; you don’t need a spider, you get t...

Re: Way to bounce mix channels WITH sends/returns per channel?
Here's the channel setup for the lead vocals of the song I'm currently mixing: mixer-vocals-grouping.png Yea, no thanks (at least until we can hide tracks). Many projects already fill the mixer window, my goal is cleaner setups that function the same but allow me to move around quicker. For example...
