Scarlett Solo Gen 3 is great for recording, but I wasn't impressed by the HP out. A bit noisy and inaccurate.
E30 II + L30 II are premium quality, and compatible with everything.
I (re)searched for years until I found these, thank god (or rather ASR : ) ).

Re: What SPL (decibel) meter to buy?
When I once tried, REW got stuck on telling me to set my speakers to exactly 60 or 80 dB, while it played a pink noise sample. I remember you recommended the Behringer one, and reviews are pretty good. How does it know when the volume level is at 80 dB for example? I want to be careful not to liste...

Re: Subtractor for iOS (iPad)
Subtractor to this day is a pretty genius and one of a kind synthesizer. Of course, there are newer types of synthesis appearing, but honestly, they aren't much of invention, rather refinement. They look different and fancy, but the capabilities don't sound that much revolutional. Start sampling wha...

Re: What did you just buy yourself?
I gave in to Edifier R2850DB speakers. I was dying to get a 3-way speaker pair, which is convenient (bluetooth, RCA inputs, coax, optical), looked cool (yep : ) ), has enough power, is big enough (yes, AAAAH!), and has decent sound. Oh hey, came with a remote control, too, sub out, and bass, treble,...

Re: What SPL (decibel) meter to buy?
Hi! Thanks for the info! It depends, since I will be getting a measuring microphone, and REW requires an accurate SPL. Not sure how reliable my phone is. I read, too, that many phones are fairly accurate, but then some say, a dedicated device would do better. I would use it when placing speakers, a...

Re: What SPL (decibel) meter to buy?
As far as accuracy goes I don't think you'll find a better app than NIOSH SLM as it is the only app (as far as I know) that shows any compliance with SPL metering standards (especially relevant to workplace safety and live sound applications). However, if you want fairly accurate readings then even...

Re: Which External Sound Card?
I have the Audio Technica ATH-E70 in-ear monitors, and they sound literally perfect with Topping's E30 II DAC and L30 II Headphone Amplifier.
Or, not premium quality like the above, but it goes, I have a Focusrite Scarlett Solo, too. It rather shines for microphone recording.

Re: What SPL (decibel) meter to buy?
i suppose that isn't surprising actually. perhaps if you discover a reputable application it will be worth posting back here too Well, I tried random android apps, but a cough from 1 meter distance shouldn't be 110 dB SPL. Nor should a quiet grumble be 80-90 dB SPL Then again, my phone is covid era...

What SPL (decibel) meter to buy?
For example, there's a simple one, Voltcraft SL-10 for 25 bucks. Measures 30-130 dB; 31,5 Hz - 8 kHz. Seems pretty common, though a bit narrow. Or is it not worth the money? Any better than a Samsung phone? It will be mainly for setting healthy speaker levels. A pink noise to 60-80 dB. Maybe some RE...

Welcome Back! Depends on if you like them. I’m not a fan of Adams in general, but know plenty of pros who love them. “Decent enough” is 100% YOUR call I would think, and I’m not informed or experienced with that specific model to comment more specifically, sorry! And unfortunately, the only way to ...

Adam T7v speakers for Surround?
Welcome me back! Been a while!
I'm thinking about building a 5.1 system for professional use.
At first, I'd get two Adam T7v speakers, and the other three later with time. Plus, one of their sub woofers.

Do you think those would be decent enough?

Re: Loudness in mastering/mixing - Open discussion
What I would do for loudness and ear-safety, is a subtle, but complex dynamics processing. The usual 4, aka up/downwards compression/expansion, and limiting, waveshaping (clipping/soft clipping, foldback distortion, ringmod, etc). Well, maybe not the upwards expansion, since we're talking dynamic ra...

Re: Loudness in mastering/mixing - Open discussion
I'll read it after I ate my pizza. But while it cools a bit, here's an interesting observation I had: While I hate squashed dynamics and overly loud, clipped, ear-fatiguing sound; I also don't fancy macro dynamics at the same time. I hate it when I watch a movie at night, I turn the TV down, because...

Topping E30 II has it all. Plus it's high-end. When I got it, it was 150 EUR.miyaru wrote: ↑25 Sep 2023Seen them only the other way round ie.: usb to spdif. You need good asio drivers btw to obtain good low latency.

Re: Loudness Wars - Logic vs Reason
Even Youtube's LUFS limit is -14 LU. Even Bob Katz recommends something around that for pop music as a quick Google search resulted. Dan Worrall won the loudness war. : ) That’s not accurate to say it is a “limit”, it’s a suggestion (which most commercial releases ignore). Also from a google search...
