Re: Reason's poor cpu performance
4 VST's and Reason pops, glitches, and needs buffer adjustment, etc for me. The time it takes to render out a mix is also more than doubled if a couple VST's are in the project. This is on a 6 core AMD 3.5 8gb RAM 1TBhd machine. My other studio comp is a i7 4.0 32RAM 2tb but from knowing other DAWs ...

Re: Reason's poor cpu performance
These "tests" are problematic. Since you don't know what the DAW does (and why) you can't really say if they are "more efficient" than the other. First of all, the code that a VST executes has ZERO to do with the DAW. Its normal code for that specific platform, compiled by the plugin developer, it ...

Re: So what's on the horizon for REs?
To be very clear: Professionals who use VST's every single day are in no way hampered by RE's or put at any advantage using RE's over VST. Same way someone who uses RE's every day will not be left clueless on how to operate a VST. They will not find an RE easier to use, nor find it more difficult to...

Re: So what's on the horizon for REs?
Joey, realize, I've used sooo many RE's as well as VST's that no, there is no inherent difference between the two formats that's even worth mentioning. EQ plugs all work and "flow" like EQ plugs = Same thing with an RE or VST compressor. All concepts are totally the same and no, I'm not crazy by an...

there is no inherent difference between the two formats that's even worth mentioning. Sorry, SA. That's just not true. There is at least one that's definitely worth mentioning. But you know, NDA and all that prevents a detailed discussion. But the short version: graphics and custom displays. I sugg...

Re: So what's on the horizon for REs?
VST's and RE's are absolutely NO different at all in terms of workflow, not on one single remote level. I strongly disagree. That's not a very well-rounded comment or opinion. There's no difference in "workflows" of VST or RE devices. That just sounds like trash-talk against VST when it's entirely ...

Re: So what's on the horizon for REs?
I wait for Nostromo 2 and still waiting for Kronos (was it that name?). I have a bunch of VSTs, but i use them only, if there is no RE that does the job. VSTs often have some bad workflow or bugs, but they bring sometimes something to my rack, that wasn't available before (in most cases some glitch...

Re: So what's on the horizon for REs?
Apparently there is going to be a huge new era for RE's coming up soon that's, as I was specifically told by a rather prominent ReFill developer, will be taking over the entire industry. There's a certain ReFill developer who says he has info about the format that he isn't at liberty to divulge, but...

Re: Anyone else kinda wish we didn't get VST support?
Not at all. Since adding VST support I can now finish whole projects with just Reason. I already had VSTs/AUs/AAX for years, it's nothing new to me. They were already installed on my system. Now being able to use them in Reason w/o some Rewire or whatever is fantastic! And I still continue to suppo...

Re: Anyone else kinda wish we didn't get VST support?
Adding VST's is obviously a must it just happened about ten years too late. What I "wish" is that Propellerheads would start taking software development more seriously. Reason is about half finished and it seems there is no sense of urgency surrounding its completion. There are basic gaping holes i...

Re: Reason Pianos vs VST's
Reason Pianos and Radical Piano are pretty good sounding, but I think for the money you can get something "better" with VSTs. Waves' Grand Rhapsody is $29 right now; Pianoteq Stage is $129 (just a little more than you'd pay for Radical Pianos) and is one of the standard VST pianos. There are plenty...

Much more. The entire professional music production community uses and has used VST's for years. If t...

Nice job on VST implementation and the early attempts at HT fixes and optimizations. There's a few easy things I wish were added to this point update, myself: Bypass button for a VST window. Easy, simple, audio crossfading like DAWs had in 2004. (Seriously = Having to make a crossfade in the Editing...

Re: Best Tape Saturation Plug-in (Waves or other), Console
Just to save people time, Kramer Tape is a lil bit of a joke in many producer/engineer circles. It's one of the first tape sims to come out and under the hood, it's a light distortion device with a slap back echo, mild compression, and a wow and flutter effect for.....well, sounding like crap. It al...

It's good to get a PC. People were running Reason on Bootcamp on MBP's and getting +50% performance just by running Reason in a simulated Windows environment.

Just a thought, and of course it is total speculation, but I am thinking about Reason's incredibly complex and flexible routing capabilities. No other DAW remotely compares in this respect, yes? Anyway, to facilitate this routing, there must also be an incredible amount going on under the hood in t...

Ok I see, so using 4 different instruments, piling Slate VBC on each of them, I can do 35 instances of VBC rack. Still nowhere close to Logic though. It's nowhere close. I just mixed a song for a record label and made a video showing over 100 audio tracks in Reaper with 55 active, heavyweight VST's...

Re: Waves SSL-E $29
It's, IMO, by far the best plug in the SSL set. Our Bus Comp in Reason is much more transparent, for example. I've got hundreds of hours using the SSL E-Chan plug. When you mix in other DAWS, it's priceless. The benefit a Reason user would get is the presets really teach you how to use an SSL chan s...

What a stupid discussion. You said it best. I think some people should think of doing more for the Reason community instead of being a source of arguments 9 of 10 times. I have iZotope Ozone 7 Advanced with the Vintage Tape plug-in. It has controls for drive, bias, tape speed, harmonics, low & high emphasis. Just no wobble which they deemed undesirable. Anyone here have experience and opinions on how this compares to other tape VSTs? I can hear the difference with ...
