Re: Batch applying tempo data to audio files
GOT IT. I've managed to create a Python script that does what I'm after - if the file contains a tempo value at the start of the filename and doesn't already contain a junk chunk, it creates an updated version with the junk chunk and appropriate tempo. Seems to work in Reason. It's super-duper janky...

Re: Batch applying tempo data to audio files
It's not quite what you are asking for but if you install something like the free ADSR Sample Manager and point it at your samples then anything you drag and drop from it will be stretched on the fly to match the BPM in the host DAW, and you can preview it before dragging. I used to use Loopcloud i...

Batch applying tempo data to audio files
I asked this a while ago but didn't seem to make much progress, now I'm facing the prospect of having to manually re-bounce thousands of audio files to embed tempo data for use in Reason and figured I'd see if anyone has come across a solution to this. So - I have a ton of audio files that I'm sorti...

Re: What outboard gear do You love
I picked up an Elektron Analog Heat a couple of years back and I love it to bits. I've used it all over the place in sound design projects, and I use it to add a little saturation using the Clean Boost circuit when finishing up tunes. Amazing little box, and I've had zero issues using it as a plug-i...

Re: Is Skeuomorphism Reason's Achilles Heel?
The whole shift+drag of rack devices thing is interesting - personally I'd love to see an option to reverse the behaviour, that way people can set it to their needs and it might cause people to inquire what it actually is. As it is, I totally missed it for close to two decades (!) but I guess that's...

Re: Advise studio speakers
Here I read what is the difference between active and studio, and I need studio monitors! I'm not going to weigh in on which monitors you should go for as that will primarily come down to where you're using them and your allotted budget. However, I just wanted to comment that there's a fair amount ...

Re: Mattias: "Reason IS the rack (...) that's how we see the product"
I love the rack and it was absolutely what got me into Reason in the first place, but nowadays I am all about how the rack/mixer/sequencer all work together. Having a decent dynamics & EQ section on tap via the mixer whenever I need them is preferable to having to fire up a channel strip VST when I ...

I feel like a nice compromise would be a progress bar - a less obtrusive indicator that something's loading as opposed to a big ol' static splash screen.

Re: Streaming with Reason and OBS
I'm assuming you're using Windows? If not, this probably won't be of much help. There's a plugin called obs-asio which makes things a lot easier. It allows you to specify one your ASIO inputs as a sound source for OBS. You can grab it here: https://github.com/Andersama/obs-asio What I tend to do is ...

Re: For Those of Us Not Impressed with Algoritm, I'd Like To Remind You of FM8
I've owned FM8 for about a decade and, although I can appreciate that it's a good synth, I've never really "clicked" with it. Within about 5 minutes of messing around with Algoritm I was getting sounds out of it that I would actually use.
Different strokes for different folks.

Re: Multi-timbral VST workarounds in Reason
Anyway, I really don't want to change my workflow and learn another DAW, and I especially won't purchase any other VST or whatever software element just to get a basic (for a DAW worthy of that name) MIDI feature Element is free now, if you wanted to try it out. I'm not even salty about paying for ...

Re: Algoritm is released!
It's a great synth - I'm a big fan of FM synths with more of a subtractive signal flow (or at least the option to go that route), so it's really great to see that in full effect here. It's a wonderfully versatile beasty, and I'm finding it much easier to get decent sounds out of it than pretty much ...

Re: Algoritm : new FM synth from RS
Wish there were more people using Reason on YT. Many that you can find seem to be hiphop/trap/'making a beat' style stuff which isn't my bag. I like Adam Fielding, Ned Rush used to do Reason stuff a decade ago but he's all Ableton Live now (very good though). Just saw this, thanks! :) And remember ...

Re: The Best Reason Synth?
If we're talking stock synths... that's a really tricky one! One thing I really like about Reason's synths is that they all have their own distinct character - I think I'd probably go with Thor because I have more of an attachment to it than any other Reason stock synth, but I'm not sure I could pic...

Re: East West Gold in Reason 9.5?
^ I heard the issue is the Play Engine is designed for realtime bounce only, so bouncing offline (like Reason does) can cause issues. I don't think it's as simple as that in reality but that's what I've read online. That is exactly the issue. The best way around this is to click the "rec source" bu...

Re: I Would Like To Know What Your Problem is With iLok
Well depends on the plugins you use. For instance, McDSP still doesn't allow computer authorization. You need a USB dongle or you can use iLok Cloud which is what I use. Still not sure why they don't trust computer authorization. That's a good point - I remember in the past that Slate required a ph...

Re: I Would Like To Know What Your Problem is With iLok
My only issue with iLok in the past was when it required a physical dongle. Now that that's no longer a requirement, I'm mostly cool with it. I say "mostly" because if you activate a bit of software on a machine, and then either forget to deactivate it or are unable to due to the machine being put o...

Re: ReSpire down to £64 reduced from £189
ReSpire sounds great. I picked it up when upgrading my Synthesis Rig a while back, and I absolutely do not regret it one bit. I've never had any major issues with it but, from what other people have said, I'd say it certainly looks like one to try before you buy. That said - yeah, I see no real reas...

(Electronic) Livestream Sessions, vol. 1
Hello there! As some of you may know, last year I spent an awful lot of time doing a series of music-making livestreams. It started out as a much-needed creative outlet during the first UK COVID-19 lockdown, and I fully expected it to last a few weeks or so. In total I ended up doing 22 of these str...
