Re: Archetype: Plini is the best amp sim ever

you started a thread a couple days ago saying a really basic, pretty ok limiter was the bestest thing ever too so ima take this with a grain of salt. i'll give it a go but if it's just another pretty picture pasted onto 2005's favorite open source disto algo i might stop takin you serious. these ar...

have you tried the Positive Grid stuff? how does it stack up against that? I have Bias FX, which is the best I’ve tried so far, personally.
Yes, it's great but not as great imo as Plini.

In what way? Which other have you tried? What were the differences?
I tried a lot of them over the years. The Plini has the most open and smooth overdrive. No nasty resonance.

Ok pitch a sinewave and let's hear your 808 kick ;) Roland tech was never simple :)
I did a test a while ago using Thor and Malström. Kong can do 808 as well but I didn't use it.

I am listening to lots of stuff. All kinds. But I am liking Ariel Pink's songwriting and lofi approach a lot since a few years.

Re: Yamaha SY85 - sampling and copyright - new thread

Copyright is weird. The Roland 808 bassdrum is a sinewave with a little pitch modulation. Nothing special. You cannot copyright that sound. Anyone can pitch a oscillator.

Re: Is dithering a must?

dithering on 16 bit is a safety net. it's very hard to hear differences between dithered material and without dithering but I personally won't take the risk and will always add dithering to 16 bit files. noise is harmless.

the Dim is nice to check a mix at much lower level. ear fatigue is a problem all the time when working.

Re: What were your first songs like?

don't care too much about the sound but it lacked matured music and lyrics. mastering never bothered me. but I guess I don't want perfect sound. lo-fi and saturation is what gets me interesting. I am playing guitar so a certain liveliness is often very nice. not creating a flat sound, a too balances...

Re: LoudMax best loudness maximizer ever?

Thanks. I felt they all sounded great. on my Sennheiser 280pro I preferred the Loudmax and I and II. will listen also on monitors and my Sennheiser HD600. Differences are small. The track was a bit tricky because of sidechain compression, so I could really detect natural limiting, so it's a matter ...

Re: LoudMax best loudness maximizer ever?

skeptical in what sense? Like i have G-Clip and you can crank it up like sh!t and it still sounds quite good. Add some oversampling to catch the distortion right and its even more ok. In the end every compression/limiting changes the overall sound if used to extensively and the dynamic is reduced. ...

Re: LoudMax best loudness maximizer ever?

I used each of Ozone's Maximizer modes. The RE only has I and II, but the VST adds III and IV. Threshold to produce -12 dB LUFS, ceiling of -1 dB. I nulled each of Ozone's outputs against each other, and they're very similar except of the transients. There's something slightly different with LoudMa...

Re: LoudMax best loudness maximizer ever?

Is that ok for a test? I think that should be perfect. I'll do the -1 dB threshold too. File is protected though. I could request access, but probably best if you made it public so anyone checking the thread can compare without bugging you. sorry, this link is better: https://marcoraaphorst.stackst...

Re: LoudMax best loudness maximizer ever?

Here's a version I did using Loudmax (using the above fil) set at -1 db and the threshold so I got to -12 LUFS integrated:

best to hear how unbelievable clean it sounds is to use the link button. you can hear even using lots of limiting it still sounds fantastic will the Maximizer will distort and clip and create nasty attacks.

Re: LoudMax best loudness maximizer ever?

LoudMax has extemely low distortion but is quick. It is way better than Ozone for sound imo. It will soften sharp transients but in a super subtle way. I guess software becomes better and better and some of the free stuff is the best software which is available. After testing LoudMax I don't really...

Neptune, because of Neptunes band (heavy Autotune users)? Or because it fakes (nep) the tuning?
My guess is that the tuning pitch fork looks a bit like the Neptune god's fork. "The god of pitch tuning"?
Good one ☝️
