Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Hey Jen, I really appreciate the updates. You’re welcome! (And my username is super misleading, my name is Allison, not Jen. Jennings is my last name. :) ) I might open this up in a new thread here and steward the project (open source) and make it happen still, if there's interest. I’d like to see ...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Shower thought: What if we ripped out the "brain" of a Nektar and put it in the body of an Icon Prox, or G2,? You know, for.....research purposes? -Slap some SSL paint on it? Also, does the Nektar use Mackie Control, or something else? You know, I too had dreamed about that and really like the idea...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Tonic Brain? <3 When it comes to circuitry I'm a total noob, but just watching this thread is amazing. Hats off to you, Allison! Haha! It all just comes down to collections of components at the end of the day I suppose. Not unlike a super sophisticated Combinator. :) The brain is about 1" (25mm) sq...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
amcjen, Do you have code, schematics/EDA files posted anywhere or do you have interested in doing this as a open hardware/software project? I would be interested in hacking on something like this myself. I have a bunch of schematics/layout files started, but haven't posted them anywhere yet b/c of ...

Thanks @delineation, I appreciate the kind words! I too am on a forum for the car I drive, for the bikes I ride, and for other activities and hobbies I enjoy. Amazing things happen when you can connect with others who are equally passionate and likeminded. I'm glad this forum exists as well, for exa...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Hi everyone! So first, I just learned recently that the tool I use to keep track of forums on my phone (Tapatalk) somehow logged me out of Reasontalk a couple months ago and I have not been getting any notifications of posts on this thread! I'm SO sorry! I tried logging back into Reasontalk via Tapa...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
A LOT of Alps encoders arrived. Finding surplus is the way to go—about 85% off of retail.
This should make quite a few prototypes.

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Def. Endless encoders (without indents I might add, I hate those), push-button capability, and with LED position markers is an already-have. The touch enabled I’ll be even better once that works. And this is why designing these sorts of things are so time consuming! Finding cheap, correct size, corr...

Hoping so too! I’ll add this to the list of things to try out. Totally agree it’s super important for automation (which is one of the main reasons for this project!)

These are the ones I’m currently evaluating:

Ooh, and doing some research it looks like it’s possible to mimic the Ableton Push usability: https://forum.pjrc.com/threads/27779-De ... y-encoders

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Interesting ideas. I’ve not seen motorized knobs either—as I believe it to be a cost issue still. To put it in perspective, really nice ALPs non-indented endless rotary encoders with push-button capabilities are around $1 each, though I found a surplus location that had them for $0.20, so I bought 5...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Thank you! It’s a loooootttt of work, and a lot of revisions and things necessary to just get it in a prototype state. I’m really happy you’re excited about it though! I am considering some changes to make it more friendly (and affordable) to more people, while maintaining the flexibility and depth....

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Hiya! Yes, been slower to update lately. I had a pretty bad motorcycle accident (drunk driver hit me) a few months ago, was wheelchair-bound for six weeks with a fractured pelvis, and so it basically stopped most things in my life for a while. The good news is that I’m about 100% well again, up and ...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
That would be fabulous. Would really simplify and extend the functionality of a simple rotary knob.selig wrote: I have a friend at NYU where they have folks working on wearables - will check with him to see who is deep diving on that subject at the student or teacher level.

Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Maybe a stupid question, but is it possible to mount a knob in the center of an OLED? Having a knob and a display separate from each other would double the overall size, but if you could mount them vertically, you could make your own "rings" and so much more! I don’t know of any, but would be prett...

Re: Reason SSL Mixer Hardware Controller
Amcjen, I'd loose the pan pot as is, and put an infinite knob with leds. And the fader leds are not necessary. They will increase the device's price and are not very needed imho. Good call on the screen! The pan knob is on a rotary encoder, that knob just has a line on it as it came from the SSL re...

Re: Moog ONE: POLY. First Look
Wow, no kidding! This looks absolutely stellar, like an all-grown-up Subsequent 37 but with so many voices. The Andromeda was the last 16 voice analog synth I played (many years ago), and there is something indeed magical about mashing ten fingers at once on chords and hearing everything happen at o...

Fair point Normen. I don’t do a lot of synth work within Reason anymore—most of it is recorded in. I do remember some of the early quality issues with synths like Subtractor.

Re: Pure USB to ADAT interface
now,.... about the low sample rate? is 44.1/48kHz acceptable sampling rates for audio recording for you? I’m really not trying to start up the old argument about what sample rates are better, but for the sake of Reason’s nuances, I think it’s important to note two things: - many hardware devices—ev...
