Re: Can I make this sound with Radical Piano

I *do* have Algoritm (and PX7). I didn’t even think of using FM. I was diverted by a report that the actual Abba piano had been used and that colored my thinking.

Thank you for the idea!

Can I make this sound with Radical Piano

I'm trying to recreate this very Abba-ish sounding piano sound that's used throughout Ghost's song "Spillways". It has quite a distinctive character, but for all my tweaking I can't figure out what exactly makes it so. I have access to Radical Piano and the original Reason Pianos (plus stock instrum...

Re: Recorded Midi plays different than live- D05

What sound source are you actually playing? If you're playing a sound generated on the D05, from the D05 keyboard - then you might have an issue with the "Local On/Off" setting on the keyboard. Briefly, if Local is turned on, then your keyboard is playing the sound directly, *as well as* sending MID...

Re: Why does the same imported mastered track make the Reason master fader clip - but not the Pro tools master fader?

I once measured the clipping level in Reason. The Master Section meter clips at +0.0000020708772 dB (1 + 2*2^-23). The Big Meter clips at +0.0000031063156 dB (1 + 3*2^-23). If that’s the case then getting one meter to clip and not the other must be a one-in-a-billion chance! That’s a minuscule diff...

Re: Why does the same imported mastered track make the Reason master fader clip - but not the Pro tools master fader?

You might be in the red, but you're not clipping (using the scale to the right of the meter). Your second image shows that you've peaked at just under 0, but the two actual clip warning lights above the meter haven't lit up - so you haven't clipped. The red bars relate to the VU scale to the left of...

Re: Any way to remove Showcase folder from the Browser?

IIRC it was introduced a few versions ago. I think the comment at the time was that there were thousands of sounds in the FSB and it would be helpful to have a collection of standout patches to compete with the likes of Serum, etc, that put massive sounds front and center in their presets. It's the ...

Yes - you should. It’s very accessible and full of good tips. I remember reading the physical copies that came with the early, boxed versions of Reason and was shocked (but shouldn’t have been) to see how big it is now. But it is still an excellent resource.

In that case it would be a cool idea to create some sort of manual (and maybe other things) RE-pository somewhere.
It would! I never quite understood why manuals weren't hosted alongside the device in the shop. I think some were/are, but not all.

Re: Disappearing developers: looking for user manuals

As I understand it, RS guarantees: 1) that REs will continue to work (historical licensing issues notwithstanding, of which I think PX7 is the only example? The Line 6 devices which are sometimes mentioned weren't REs, and in any event remained available in the legacy versions of Reason), and 2) tha...

Given the pandemic situation around the world I would expect them to consider hiring remote employees. I have not been employed for a long time now, but if I was looking for job I would unlikely move to Stockholm to get it. Not that I have any insider information at all, but Reason Studios is not a...

You haven't lived until you've experienced a bunch of synths daisy-chained together with MIDI thru ports. The very definition of 'rock-solid timing'. :-D

Re: Migrating from desktop to laptop

Thanks for the feedback! You can use docking stations (and other devices) on USB-C, giving you pretty much as many USB 3.x ports as you could possibly need. The most important thing to find out is if your audio hardware is compatible with the operating system on your laptop, which means, are there p...

Migrating from desktop to laptop

I'm still running Reason on an old (must be at least 12 years, at this point) desktop PC with the usual USB-A connectors on the back. Connected to them are: a Steinberg Audio interface, a MIDISport MIDI interface, and a Nektar Panorama P6, as well as the usual things like keyboard and mouse. I also ...

YESS!!! Before Atari ST I made first MIDI experiences with Amiga 2000 + Music-x + Akai s590 + M1 ! Top notch! I. Am. Jealous. Somehow I let the music store salesman talk 19-year old me into getting the JV-30 and a hardware sequencer rather than the M1 I really wanted. The 24 note polyphony c...

Re: Anyone remember Music-X?

Yeah I remember of it but not the software specifically. A lad on my estate who was about 3 or 4 years older than me so will be about 49 / 50 now was using it to create dance music. Me and a friend went 'round his house (about 1990 / 91) and he had an Atari 520ST and Music X and was doing stuff on ...

Anyone remember Music-X?

Visiting my parents for Christmas, my father had retrieved my old Roland JV-30 and Commodore Amiga from the attic. Had fun setting it up again and letting my son discover what MIDI-based recording was like back in the early 90s... Ahhh, the days of 80MB hard drives... :-) https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Does the math even work out? From memory, wasn't Reason+ launched back in January? And is it reasonable to assume that a lot of R+ subscribers are on one of the many deals that amounted to ~$100 a year? Yet any perpetual user who upgraded to R12 paid at least ~$120? So, in several months' time, perh...

Giles, what about splitting the signal, then filtering out all but the noise (on one channel), inverting it, then mixing it back into the other channel? Perhaps even applying a micro delay to one channel (100% wet, no feedback) and trying to fine tune the timing. Could something like that work? Sur...
