Re: Synthesizing with europa
Somehow we seem to be focusing on the small part of my post that was in parentheses LOL! :-) I should clarify - I didn't mean to imply that Thor was simpler than Europa (though the fact that it doesn't hide anything that's actively creating sound while Europa does might count for something...). I di...

Re: Synthesizing with europa
It might be - I don't have any experience of using it. But looking at the screenshots in the shop it still looks like it is more complex than Subtractor, given that it has a mod matrix, effects and step sequencer. More to the point, why spend another $50 when Subtractor (and Malstrom and Thor) are a...

Re: Synthesizing with europa
I recommend taking a read of this thread which started with an inquiry similar to yours, but asked about Complex-1 rather than Europa: https://forum.reasontalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7510903 To cut to the chase, if you're new to synthesis, you might want to start with a simpler synth like Subtracto...

Re: Record 1.5 Compatibility
The first two paragraphs of Sound On Sound's Reason 5/Record 1.5 review from 2010 seem to imply that Record 1.5 can be installed alongside (but not integrate with) Reason 4: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/pr ... d-reason-5
Maybe it's just worth trying to confirm with the Props directly.

Re: Record 1.5 Compatibility
If memory serves, you could run Record by itself, or Reason by itself, or both of them simultaneously but separately, or both of them integrated together (similar to Reason from v6 onwards) depending on the order in which you opened the applications. And I think you could buy the applications separa...

Re: Stereo Width Natural Zero
Yes, that's correct. But remember that even though you might be using "full stereo" for a channel, the sound itself might still be panned much more narrowly. To take your drum example, if you panned all the drums centrally in the VST/RE, it will sound narrow regardless of the spread setting for the ...

Re: Amateur needs help with Reason
Depends somewhat on what you are trying to achieve... I'd recommend taking a look at Ryan's "Super Neat Beat Cheat Sheet" series on YouTube. Here's a good one to start you off: https://youtu.be/wZzeD2LBrdQ But if you're looking to trigger the drums using external midi (from your keyboard or a pad de...

Re: newbie combinator question
You shouldn't have to automate anything. I think what we need to know is: how are you playing the combinator right now? Do you have some kind of MIDI input (keyboard or pads)? Or are you doing something like using the mouse to click on buttons/pads on the screen? Only the former will work "live". M...

Re: Would Complex-1 be a good way to learn about synths / synthesis?
+1 on the suggestions above. I, too, recommend Syntorial - wish I had found it years ago. It's a little pricey but has a demo that gives access to the first bunch of lessons for free so you can see if it meets your needs. While it obviously covers off on the same theoretical topics that books and vi...

Use the "Inv" button at the very top of the big mixer to invert the phase. I think Selig's Gain RE has an "invert" button, too.

Re: Some RE:nders -animation
That's just amazing.
There's something about seeing all these REs as hardware - with seemingly real textures and weight - that makes me appreciate even more the power that is available to us now. The sense of physically touching all these devices is eye-watering.
I'm blown away.

Hi, I'm posting on behalf of my teenage son, who recently posted a (instrumental) cover version of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters on YouTube: https://youtu.be/IEMGIPLIlD0 It's his second attempt at recording/mixing his work, he's using Reason exclusively to record his guitars and drums (line in fr...

How to create this sound?
Hi all, Apologies if this is the wrong forum... My son is currently using Reason to record an instrumental cover version of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". He's playing guitar, bass and drums, and using one of Reason's string sounds for the string section. We're trying to figure out how to creat...

Re: Reason 4 to Reason 10: song import
Not sure I have an answer regarding the mixer - my inclination would be to leave it as is unless you need new features in the SSL. But for the vocal sample would you be better off moving the sample file to an audio track rather than using the NN-XT?

Re: Mapping notes
@Selig. First - thanks for engaging in thinking about this. (And, in fact, for everything you do on this forum - I may not post much, but I read a lot!) I understand your point about workflow, and I see the sense in your suggestion. In my very specific domestic drum-mapping case, though, where my so...

Re: Mapping notes
I don't mean to hi-jack the thread, so I do apologize to the OP. If it is better to take this into a separate thread, let me know. But a couple of thoughts on the drum mapping idea. Obviously in this case you're not generally looking to map 127 notes. I don't know what the average or extreme use cas...

Re: Mapping notes
I second the idea for a note re-mapper! That would be really cool. My son has a (cheap) electric drum kit that outputs midi. It's possible to use the kit's control model to remap the midi notes that each pad sends, but I can't help thinking it would be much easier/quicker to do that within Reason an...

Re: PSA: do *NOT* build your studio in a basement where it rains
Yikes - this brings back memories... For what it's worth, the best advice I received when our hot water heater broke and poured water all over the basement was to pull up the carpet and cut out the wet underlay underneath. Basically the underlay is soaking up 90% of the water, will never dry out com...

As the new owner of a P6, I have to say this is an awesome thread. Somewhat overwhelming but I'm looking forward to getting stuck in. Thanks to everyone who has contributed here. I do have a (hopefully) quick question though: for the External Midi Instrument mapping, is it possible to map the progra...

Well... after lurking here since the creation of Reasontalk, I just watched the recording of your last livestream and I feel compelled to make my first post to thank you. I thought I'd watch 10 minutes or so, but found myself sitting through the full two hours. Some great insights into workflow and ...
