Re: Mixing by numbers
I guess mixing by numbers is not possible. Not now. We can use meters as a guide but even so, we need to trust our ears also. A weird combo because our ears are colored. Like are brains. So we should listen to our hearts :) And these are unique. Very personal. And I guess that's what we want. Or I w...

Should be the same as using a little bit of eq right?Raveshaper wrote:Regarding coloration, some producers run sounds through EQ at neutral settings *because* it colors the audio. But in this case, I don't think this happens.

Re: Possible "coloration" of SSL mixer vs. 14:2 mixer?
that 14:2 and the old EQ is funny: if you turn the treble and bass all the way to the right you get 24 db increase of gain but no coleration. so both curves are like perfect adding the right amount of high end +midrange / low end + midrange. not sure what is going on but the old EQ feels like a high...

Converting WAV to MIDI: timing is way off
Why is the timing when converting WAV to MIDI not rock solid? Here's a screenshot: Screen Shot 2016-08-04 at 19.18.12.png Probably because it is meant for voices? The Subtractor patch has a slow attack so maybe the notes' timing are therefore changed. But this is not good imo because WAV to MIDI con...

Re: Mixing by numbers
One of my favourite albums is Aja of Steely Dan. It sounds superb. BUT all the tracks sound totally different. Low end, high end, amount of compression, totally different. Josie for example has much treble and is lacking deep lows. But Black Crow has superb lowend and that warm midrange sound. The m...

Re: Mixing by numbers
One other aspects of today's music is also misusing something, especially noticeable in all sorts of electronic music. If we would go back to the origins of compressors and their original purpose, one has to wonder why there would be any use for them in genres that are based on the use of samples a...

Re: Mixing by numbers
But that auto EQ would only work for already mixed tracks though
I guess it still comes down to metering and using your ears.

Re: Mixing by numbers
cool suggestions.
I still think some sort of auto EQ might be cool. Like auto gain.
Auto gain doesn't use compression in most cases and it works great. So probably for getting the same frequency curves some sort of auto EQ would be possible too.

Re: Mixing by numbers
Let's break it down. Let's do the obvious ones: Using a spectrum analyzer to see if there is anything going on in the very low frequencies that you don't want. Also important, to do this at several stages on the same channel. For example, I high-passed a channel and then inserted a FXpansion BusComp...

Mixing by numbers
Recently I started rethinking the whole Listening By Ear versus Measuring. I am not at all a science wizard and my knowledge of DSP and sound acoustics is maybe only a little above average, but not at all on an expert level. In short: a lot of things I am hearing I can not proove/explain. At the sam...

Hi all! First post, glad to have found that the original PUF community lives on (sort of), and glad to see that so many of my favorite users have migrated over here. I got a lot of world-class help on the old forums and I'm sure this place will be no different. So, right off the bat, thanks! :) Spe...

Ok here's my tip for everything: change your listening/monitoring volume all the time. The best way to check your mix is simply listening to it at different levels. Speakers will sound totally different because our ears are the problem. They are non lineair and very much colored. ^Agreed-except par...

Re: Headphone Mixing Tips Needed
The guy is mixing bass and bass synth "together" but as you will find out when the rest of the mix sets in the whole thing falls apart. I also felt the bassdrum was WAY too punchy because it's not a matter of peak volume adjustments, it's all about the tones/EQ of the sound. So watching a meter for...

Re: Why are we drawn to certain music genres?
I am very eclectic. I love many types of music. folk, electronic, jazz, classical, heavy stuff, lofi, hifi, slick, raw, everything really :D like a meal I don't want to eat the same stuff over and over again. sometimes I love a pop tune (read: a refrain that keeps repeating) and something I don't wa...

music notation on paper. I believe this is why music is covered so often. and when it is covered, performed, it is still alive.

Re: CV Delay
Feedback is ADDING the output signal back into the input, so naturally it's going to ADD gain in most cases. :) Yeah, easy to understand when you say it like that. Applied to CV, and it's way more abstract to me. CV is a signal just like audio is a signal. In analog systems they are both volt...
