Why Reason?
It’s my personal belief that skeuomorphism in general was a great way to introduce software concepts to hardware people, but not the best way to take advantage of all software has to offer. One simple example: cables in Reason, specifically the need to stick to actual physics with regards to needing...

How hard can it be?
Best way is to contact the Props and have a look for yourself - only YOU know your skill level! FWIW, I would never be put off by a few negative reviews…my first album review in Billboard was far less than glowing, but I persevered and made more music. Same for my REs, not everyone will love everyth...

Re: A button to record arm all instruments/mixer and everything automation in reason with one click
I really can’t believe Reason doesn’t have a “do to all” and “do to selected” modifier keys like Pro Tools has had for years. There are countless things you can quickly do with this functionality and it doesn’t require you to create a group first (if groups were even possible in Reason - but that’s ...

BRIGGS AND SOULSTATE - not only are you off topic (and off color), but… never mind, both of you take it to PM if you really feel the need to discuss this subject.

Re: Softube 'Weiss DS1-MK3' "The gold-standard in mastering dynamics"
You know, I love Softube's stuff, and I feel their modelling is top notch... but this is ridiculously overpriced, IMHO. Taking into consideration one can buy Ozone 8 Advanced for less, and let's face it - Ozone is the gold standard for mastering - I just can't even consider looking at this thing. I...

Impulse response loader Rack Extension
I would tend to agree - you need to show three responses to determine if the problem is with the RV7000 or not: the original, the RV7000, and a convolution done “right”. Sent from some crappy device using Tapatalk Convolution on an impulse gives you back the IR exactly (that's why it's called calle...

Re: Subtractive EQ on Vocals
Just speculating… If you can hear that your mixes sound dull, you don’t need to look at a display to know how your vocals should sound - maybe you have all the tools you need between your ears! …and no, this isn’t another “turn off the meters and use your ears” post, I’m just pointing out you are p...

Re: Adding points to audio level track?
You also have the gain on top of every mixer channel, but could be a problem if you have insert efx! Selig Levler is super for this kind of work. You mean Selig Gain? There are differences between adjusting level at the clip vs at the fader - one is at the start of the signal path, one at the end (...

Re: Any MS Stereo Mic Recommendation
I would suggest the Zoom approach if you need a very portable solution, or the two microphone approach if you're inside and don't need portability (with the advantage of being able to use the mics for other purposes).

Re: Impulse response loader Rack Extension
No, that's down to what the RV7000 is doing. The process of convolution applied to an impulse will give you back the convolution exactly. But if you've got a 10 second impulse you don't want to be doing raw convolution, so you'll do two things: 1. Convert the convolution to a fourier transform (DFT...

Best compressor for percussions
The SSL channel is my go-to compressor for any percussive sound (including non-percussion instruments). Start with the defaults, ratio all the way up, release all the way down, threshold to give 1-2 LEDs (3-6 dB) gain reduction. Yes, I’m totally serious! Sent from some crappy device using Tapatalk ...

Re: Record vocal while monitoring with effects, with no latency
Hi, you can do a mix of direct monitoring with reason monitoring. In your audio card, set the correct mixer levels (careful with gain staging at the pre-amp), to have as much of the vocal as you wish. In reason, create an audio track and define the mic channel as the channel for that track. Add a r...

If there’s anything I can do to help out in the future, especially if it helps with your time schedule, please let me know. You have a keen understanding of these subjects and are able to explain them clearly IMO, so your work has great value!

Re: compressor advice for Acoustic Guitar
Tha k you so much! Got any tips on EQ for acoustics? Same response as for compressors - what are you trying to accomplish? Each instrument is different, each mic is different, each player is different, each song (context) is different. Give a specific example, and you’ll still get more than one res...

Re: compressor advice for Acoustic Guitar
The problem is that the volume is choppy and when I'm applying compression I was getting too much compression artifacts. Since last night I took another look at the RE2A which is my usual go-to compressor because of it only having three controls. I set it to just capture the peaks and that made a d...

Re: How much can Expanse do that Europa can't?
This might not be related to the oscillators but the saturation/distortion itself. In the digital audio world a signal can get aliasing from not only oscillators but also filter and distortion since they can generate various overtones. Would this still be the case even if I'm using a hardware analo...

Re: Subtractive EQ on Vocals
I wouldn't pull too much from videos like this. Sure, there's useful tips and tricks to pick up on for some cleanup on vocals but after the first 15-ish seconds or so there's zero context of the song as a whole. It's easy to make a solo'd track sound night and day. Making that same track stand out ...

Re: compressor advice for Acoustic Guitar
It depends on what your goal is. If you want to increase sustain then something like the Leveler is good because it won’t affect the attack. But if you want instead to control attack (increase or decrease it), you’ll need a more traditional compressor (with attack/release controls) like the FET. Or ...

I don’t hear vocoder or saturation - I just hear a hard-tuned vocal.

Broadcast Quality Audio
so if im reading this correctly ...you limit your audio to -10dbfs? need to get me a dedicated LUFS meter ..i usually just guestimate based on the vu-peak offset in the master fader. You don’t need an LUFS meter to hit -10 dBFS - this is easily done using the Big Meter (assuming you’re using Reason...
