Re: Synth Strings that will "do the job"?

Also, check out the solo violin patch in Reason's Orkester sound bank, and the violin patches in the Reason Sounds bank. These aren't the most sophisticated violin instruments, but one of them might get you close to the sound you're looking for while you search for something better.

Re: Synth Strings that will "do the job"?

If you want a convincing fiddle sound, you should check out various Kontakt virtual instruments. Just do a Google search for "kontakt fiddle" and a bunch of results will show up. The violin/fiddle is a very difficult instrument to recreate realistically because of its fretless design, variable tone,...

Re: Free Izotope Iris with any Purchase

I got Iris about a year ago, and never used it in a project. The concept is totally cool, the execution is original, but I found the resulting output to be pretty bland and generic sounding. I know there are a lot of peeps who like Iris, but it never clicked for me. I can get better results, quicker...

Re: Merging MIDI from all instruments into one big MIDI file/clip (e.g.for a piano version)

If I understand you correctly, after the initial "implode", you can then add more MIDI lanes to that same track, and implode once again, and so on... there shouldn't be a limit to the number of times you can continue merging like this. I'm sure Gustav never envisioned having his music represented a...

Re: What type of music do you primarily create with Reason?

The recent age poll was an interesting revelation and got me wondering about the type of music middle-aged folks and geezers like me are producing - and yes, the youngsters, too :) Select up to 3 musical styles, and please focus on the type of music you create the most. We've all dabbled in many di...

Re: Merging MIDI from all instruments into one big MIDI file/clip (e.g.for a piano version)

I hope I'm not missing anything. But in that MIDI file are like 25+ note lanes and that file is only one of many. I could go ahead and move each lane into a seperate note lane of my piano, then "implode" them all. But that's not really feasible. At least not more than once :/ Who knew that it would...

Re: What type of music do you primarily create with Reason?

kind of surprising to me that there isn’t more rock representation, here. I would’ve thought more rock artists would gravitate toward the classic studio “rack experience”. If I was working a lot with audio, Reason sure as shit wouldn't be my first choice. Everything's great in terms of workflow unt...

Okay, nevermind - I wasn't paying attention. You need to select (or right-click) the track header on the left to access the Merge feature. So yes, Reason can merge MIDI clips :o

Straight from the Reason manual...

Re: Merging MIDI from all instruments into one big MIDI file/clip (e.g.for a piano version)

It's kind of clunky, but you would need to copy the MIDI notes from clip A and paste them into clip B. The paste will not replace the existing notes in clip B, but will simply add the copied clip A notes to clip B - effectively merging them. I thought for sure I remembered Reason having a merge feat...

To hear all the parts play on a single instrument, simply add additional MIDI lanes to a single track (the + button at the top of the sequencer), and to view it all at once, use the multi-lane editing mentioned above.

Re: What type of music do you primarily create with Reason?

Probably no surprises in these results, although I'm guessing the Orchestral category is probably bigger now than it was say 10 or even 5 years ago. VST support, and by extension Kontakt, has enabled the use of high end orchestral libraries in Reason, whereas before, the choices were extremely limit...

Re: Katy Perry vs Flame Lawsuit

Imagine if there were a way to instantly compare any new composition against EVERY piece of music that came before it - throughout all of history, copyrighted or not. I'm fairly certain there would be very few (listenable) pieces, if any, that could survive such a test without being flagged at least...

Re: What type of music do you primarily create with Reason?

No pop music category? Or is that a sub category of electronic or hip hop these days? Pop covers so much territory, from Taylor Swift to Bruno Mars to Kings of Leon, that I figured folks could simply align with their particular Pop sub-genre. But I'm happy to add Pop as a category if that would mak...

Re: is anyone really using OHHH's and AHHH's (HUMANA synth)

I have Soundiron's fully realized choral Kontakt libraries, of which Humana is a small subset, but sometimes when I just need a simple vocal pad or accent, I'll throw Humana in the rack instead of one of the big Kontakt libraries. For example, the vocal "grunts" on this track are Humana: https://for...

That's very true, money is a big factor, and probably has more to do with it than all other possible explanations. It's been so long, that I forgot how really poor I was back in college :o

Re: [Poll] How old are you?

I'm near the upper edge of the Reasontalk age spectrum, and I too am surprised by the poll results. But if I think about it, if I were a youngster, I don't think Reason would be my first choice for making music. FL and Live, and even Garage Band, seem to have greater appeal to novice music-makers. B...

A Google search for "random note generator vst" yields some possible results.

Also try searching for "generator" at vst4free.com. Lots of cool stuff pops up, in addition to pure note generators.

I got World Suite a while back for a really good price - even less than the current sale, I believe. It's got a lot of content and I've actually used some of the instruments for paid work. That said, I'm not sure it's such a good deal at the current sale price. The samples are good, but a lot of the...

Re: Help with Celtic Drum Patterns

Personally, I wouldn't do this with a player device, but would sequence, or record, MIDI notes in Reason's sequencer, where you have more control over note placement and velocity, and you can also apply ReGroove to impart a more human feel. The dynamics of the drums are critical to a pattern like th...

(trance) 2GOOD4U ---- ancient Reason 2.5 track

Spinning back the time machine... this is one of the very first completed tracks I made with Reason 2.5 well over 15 years ago. The mix is not great and the synths are all Subtractors and Malstroms (that's all we had back then!), but there's something about this track that people seem to like (I hav...

Re: Sonivox strings. Any good?

Miroslav and Sonivox were my first string libraries, and I used them (sporadically) for several years before moving up to some of the more heavy-duty libraries. For the price, Sonivox is a good deal, but don't expect a super refined library. It's capable of some convincing string parts, but requires...
