Re: RRP startup time take minutes on Reaper
The first instance is slow for me, but then adding further RRP instances is pretty fast.

Not the same, but check out Echobode, it's brilliant.

Re: Getting rid of double VSTs in the browser?
Other DAWs also show both VST2 and VST3 versions.
I like it that way, especially when I am collaborating (I use Windows and my collaborators use Mac) and from time to time there are compatibility issues so it's nice to have the option.

Re: DIVA users, What is the typical CPU load?
It depends on what patch is being played, but generally yes it's pretty DSP intensive. There are settings that can change the load. A quality setting, and also multi-core switch. Both have significant impact. But the great thing about VST's in Reason is the ability to turn off the VSTs when you've b...

Re: Korg Opsix vs Reason Studios Algorithm
Even if the sound is exactly the same, if the user experience of Opsix is more inspiring to you than Algoritm, then it is worth buying. More inspiring = enhance your creativity & productivity = (probably) better music. That said, I would expect the sound to be different. I haven't tried Opsix but fr...

Re: Korg modwave vst version
I recently bought the hardware synth and it is incredibly deep - a bit overwhelming actually. The software editor is excellent and I'm finding a great way to get to grips with the various features. If you have the hardware, it costs USD 49 for this new VST plugin (which also runs standalone). I pick...

Re: Reason rack anyone ?
Big fan here. RRP + Reaper. I can use a 140% zoom on Reason devices for sound design, while operating in the no-zoom of Reaper - best of both worlds. Reaper is so much more flexible and faster for arranging and programming (once you figure it out), feels like you've had a massive CPU upgrade, and Re...

Re: Cleaning a Hardware Mixer
For general dust removal (I don't have any covers on my synths) I keep a paintbrush handy. It's great for dusting in between the switches and pots.

Re: Albums vs Songs
Unless I'm alone in the car, I never get the continuous time to listen to an album. Between work and family life the short bursts of opportunity to listen to music make it more practical to either listen to singles, or albums that are collections of singles (as opposed to a journey designed to be li...

Re: Hardware Korg M1 Question
I had an M3R rather than M1, but found using "combo" which was monotimbral (one part), it sounded great, but using multi-timbrally it was pretty lame. Not only because you lose the layering of combos, but the FX are global (if I remember correctly) and a big part of the sound design. If I had an M1,...

Re: I really, really should learn how to program synths.
FM synthesis isn't as hard as people claim, once you become familiar with the tone you get with different modulator-carrier ratios. I would even say that learning FM synthesis gives you a much more in-depth understanding of how sound characteristics are working. I started out with analog subtractiv...

Re: I really, really should learn how to program synths.
+1 on Selig's comment, choose the synth you are drawn to and learn it well. Unless that synth is the DX7 or the Cheetah MS800.... Haha :) The first proper synth I learned to program (if I exclude a basic subtractive synth I build myself and the Commodore 64 SID chip) was a Yamaha CX5M music c...

Re: I really, really should learn how to program synths.
+1 on Selig's comment, choose the synth you are drawn to and learn it well. But also, learning some of the essential elements may also help you become a faster preset surfer, at least in knowing which synth to go to first. There are two good approaches to learning I think: (1) building a sound from ...

I'm happy with the move from iZotope to Sonible. Getting better mix and master results and my CPU is thanking me for it too
Though I still use Ozone Stereo Imager, but v8 of that does the job.

Re: I may have discovered a remedy for plugin GAS.
Actually I don’t have a problem with GAS. I’ve had so many friends die the last two years that I’m in the mindset of thinking if I can afford something and want it I’ll get it and enjoy it. Here and now. Take the kids on cool holidays, buy a guitar I’ve always wanted, new pedals because they’re coo...

Re: I may have discovered a remedy for plugin GAS.
Probably the biggest lesson I learned was never buy something because it's on sale. "Never" is a tricky word. You could be lusting after a plug-in for weeks or months, waiting to save enough in your frivolity fund, when suddenly it goes on sale, and suddenly your fund has enough. Legit, no? Yes, I ...

Re: Obsession vs all the other ones.
Sonically I like OPX II Pro the most. But I don't like it's UI or patch management. OPX has quite a 'forward' sound. Obsession sounds softer /less forward (to me) but has a much better UI and patch management. I also like Synapse as a company and want to support them. The difference means I tend to ...

Re: I may have discovered a remedy for plugin GAS.
I found another GAS solution, the hard way. Crash your computer to the point you have to reinstall Windows and everything from scratch. The painful process of reinstalling all the software, plugins, license validations etc, each time thinking 'gee when was the last time I used that?' ! Even the Rack...

Re: If you could only use ONE synth for a whole year, which one would it be?
Roland System-8. Because it sounds fantastic, it's super fun to program, it has a deep native S8 engine and fantastic Jupiter and Juno emulations. (The JX3P engine I'm not sold on). Love this synth. If I was able to choose one of each, it would be: hardware: System-8 Native-Reason: Europa - doesn't ...
