Re: Shock Mount vs Me
I’ve been around those my entire life and still can’t string one up without looking at instructions. The first mic I ever had with a mount like that is the NT1. I got that in like 2009 so like 15 years ago. I have no excuse. Last night I was using the TF11. I really like the sound of that mic. For ...

Re: P455 MDN Sidecar
Seems pretty limited, I don’t see a way to swap the order of EQ and Compression, for example. I already have excellent API EQ and 1176 compressors and plenty of amazing tape and saturation simulation. Plus I used the hardware versions for many years so I may be more biased to the original tools/appr...

As always, an insightful video from Selig. Tbh, I think a lot of us here may be underestimating how much we can share. I think this relates to your post… I consider myself to be extremely lucky to have learned engineering directly from working engineers (while they were working!). I dropped out of ...

Re: Reason Tutorials: "One Neat Trick" [Preview]
Some hopefully constructive feedback from me: I think your tutorial gives good inspiration on how one can utilise CV and the combinator to get a nice generative sequence going. It's very valuable info for someone who is new to Reason and has not yet taken a deeper dive into the possibilities of it....

Man i totally missed this. I mix stuff for 20 years now, but i really like and always learn stuff by seeing others doing it, so I'm sure I'll check it out! I might do one of these myself one day, to show off my BCF2000x3 + BCR2000 modus operandi while mixing with reason! :) would watch ...

Was going to suggest PoohBears chart as well. I see two quick things to add/correct. One is the pre fader send which should be "post pan" as in Pooh's chart. Also note the Direct Outs (not in Pooh's chart) as switching jacks, which should mute the main path when connected. The rest looks right to me...

Re: Hardware Production Question
Just checked, and indeed OctaMed had MIDI support, but I don't know if that went any further than sequencing notes (I never had an Amiga). Around that time (I think) I was running Cubase on an Atari, which was much more capable than Octamed. Octamed was primarily a tracker, while Cubase was a full-...

Re: Vocal-Shaper VST does Dynamic Cleaning
As often as not, I don't want to boost the fundamental of the vocal, unless I'm going for an intimate, moody close-miked sound. Generally (though not always) the fundamental is the strongest harmonic in a timbre, and it doesn't need any help. I agree with vocals, am cutting lows more often than boo...

Re: Hardware Production Question
That depends on if you have a sequencer running for the track (hardware or software) and if the synthesizer in question can be controlled by that sequencer (with either MIDI or CV). Ahh good point. So say back in 1990, could the filter cut off be controlled in say Octamed on an Amiga computer? Sure...

Re: Vocal-Shaper VST does Dynamic Cleaning
I didn’t find that feature, but when I read stuff like this I think about all the amazing vocal mixes over the past 75+ years that never needed this feature. That said, I’ve explored stuff like this using pitch to MIDI and ColoringEQ to follow the pitch. It may be handy in some cases but seems almos...

Re: session singers (or any session musician actually)
As a songwriter you do this all the time, unless you’re a great singer yourself. I was in Nashville so we had many options, but now with the internet you have even more. There are things to look out for, to be sure, but it’s not much different from taking a chance on a new voice. And if you DO happe...

Re: Things I never noticed in Reason, or are new…
Yeah this is how I work. There is a bug though, if Reason isn't open and you select to open multiple audio files with Reason, it will duplicate the first audio file that many times. For example, if I select and open "file 1" through "file 4" Reason will open with four tracks of file 1. And this get...

Things I never noticed in Reason, or are new…
Today I received an email containing a new version of a mix for me to reference in an on going project. I wanted to import the mix into the song file so I could quickly compare and see where I was "off". So in the email, I selected the mp3 and did a quick 'right click'. Up came an "open with" dialog...

Re: Any way for Reason to record Stereo Mix/What You Hear and/or use Integrated Mic as input source?
Edit: Wow, this thing is like using a cruise ship to cross a tiny stream. It seems like way too much for the simple thing I'm trying to do. I'll keep playing with it, but I've got a feeling that I'll likely keep doing it the same tedious way I've been doing it. If you need something simpler, maybe ...

Re: What does the "Q" stand for?
BTW, wish those shortcuts were momentary, i.e. holding W would enable the pencil tool, but letting go off the key would go back to whatever was selected earlier - it's very handy in Bitwig. I know this isn’t exactly what you’re suggesting, but I find it quite useful. There IS a temporary tool switc...

Re: Reason Studios 13 or 14 (Future Talk)
when you name tracks in the mixer they should rename in the timeline too The “problem” with this suggestion is that there are no “tracks” in the mixer. There are “channels” in the mixer, which won’t show up in the sequencer unless you automate something on them, which then creates a track (for the ...

Re: Elektor Formant 70's DIY synth
I always enjoy this guy's videos. I was aware of lots of synths back in the 70s (I was in high school), but never knew much about this one other than the name. I messed around with a borrowed PAIA in the late 1970s, which was a cheaper DIY synth from the same era as this one. They are often so quirk...

Re: Post your non-4/4 tunes here, plz!
Over my many years I've explored odd time sigs lots of time. One of my first 'written' tunes was in 15/16 (7/8 + 4/4) and I'm always going back and revisiting these ideas. Here's a work in progress based on an Absynth patch which I felt had a bit of "swing" to it. So I approached the drums with a mo...

Re: Way to bounce mix channels WITH sends/returns per channel?
I used the term sum because there was some (mis)information on the internet which stated that playing an audio file rendered from the sum of all the tracks in a Reason project file (so the rendered master out/no effects) sounded different than playing separate bounced mix channel stems placed in an...

Re: Way to bounce mix channels WITH sends/returns per channel?
Manually as in soloing each track and rendering the master [track count] times? If that is the case I have a question. May be a noob question. If you render one track at a time like this and the master has absolutely no effects activated on it, then the whole process will be completely transparent/...
