Re: Reason 10 announced!

For what it's worth: I started reading these forums around the end of Reason 7, when I had just come back to the program after many years. Reason 8 was an incredible upgrade to workflow, and at the time many here griped about there being no new synths. Reason 9 added Players and a huge new soundbank...

Re: Reason 10 announced!

Europa and Grain alone seem worth the price of admission. Seems like they've been paying attention the REs that people are buying and using (i.e. things like Expanse and Proton). I'm excited to play with these new toys.

Re: Propellerhead introduces Layers synth.

I like layers for what it is but at 69/99 dollars seems like there should be more sounds included with this. This RE would be killer if you could load additional samples in it kind of like NNXT........NNXT lite. Now only if the legend would go on sale for $49.99 life would be grand.....Wink Wink.. ...

Re: Viking 2 Update!

Started goofing with this last-night. Even in its new default, low-CPU-intensive state, it seems to be taking up a lot more of my computer resources than other units I use all the time. That said, I like my early impressions quite a bit. I don't have much interest in the modular aspect, but as a str...

Wouldn't mind seeing one for Layers, such a nice but understated little synth.
Agreed. It would also give me a better sense of what this synth is capable of when pushed to its limits (or even how much it can be pushed).

Re: Propellerhead introduces Layers synth.

I don't know where you've been, but if you've even casually browsed this rack extension forum, it seems like a lot of Reason users here are pro-RE and anti-VST. I doubt many here are explicitly anti-VST. But yeah, all other things considered equal, I would much rather any tools I'm using be in the ...

Re: Propellerhead introduces Layers synth.

Spent a bunch of time with Layers tonight, finally. I was surprised how few sounds/samples there actually are in the thing (only ~60), and how many of the preset patches are built from standard sine/square/etc. waves (presumably not sampled from one of these old synths). So a repository of classic s...

Re: Propellerhead introduces Layers synth.

I'm looking forward to trying this RE over the weekend. I've read through the complaints on this thread, but a lot of them seem to sum up to "we already have / can create these sounds." I get that. This isn't for you, clearly, and there are more robust or versatile ways for you to get these sounds (...

Re: So what's on the horizon for REs?

I really hope the development of REs doesn't drop off. I still vastly prefer working with them to VSTs in Reason, and I love knowing that they'll continue to work as before. It's nice being able to open up a file from a couple of years back and it just works.

Re: (Art pop?) Vocals and synths, continued

That's nice. I love your voice and how the song progresses, that piano arp sounds perfect. Production is also nice except for the distorted bass, it sounds good at the busiest parts but I'd low pass it for the verses - just takes too much from the vocals. Good idea with the low-pass! I hadn't consi...

Re: (Art pop?) Vocals and synths, continued

Hey jayhosking, great tune as usual (loved your last offering)! Great mix, all the elements fit so nicely. The drums sound very organic. Maybe I'll get on R9 eventually, and we can do a collab :puf_wink: As before, I'd totally be into that. And if you can't tell, R9 is a beautiful step up from prev...

Hey thanks for listening and thanks for the feedback! The sound of the bass comes from bitcrushing it in Kraft (love that it has onboard bitcrushing), but I probably love that sound too much, hah.

Re: Just upgraded to Reason 9. What REs are worth looking into?

Proton This one I actually found to be the most interesting one of all the synths I tried. It offers new sounds that I can't do with my other synths I own. I found the sounds pretty inspiring too. I thought the GUI would bug me but it turns out I don't really mind it at all. Seems like it's pretty ...

Re: Nektar Panorama P6 - still relevant for a while? Better suggestion?

That's really awesome support. Great to hear it. I've had this thing for a little while now, and have noticed myself really taking advantage of it for both mixing and instrument performance-tweaking (e.g. riding the cutoff knob on the filter). Not sure why, but I find myself adjusting the velocity s...

Re: How much are you willing to spend on a RE?

Depends on what the RE does. Something like Expanse seems to have enormous depth and a variety of uses. Something that is more single-purpose, or has a limited utility (e.g. Rotor), I'm much less willing to pay a lot. In general, though, I wouldn't want to go above $100, even for something as versat...
